Whilst working on our Salix funded project for Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, military style planning was essential to meet efficiency targets for the hospital building whilst working around live wards. Procured via the Pagabo Medium Works Framework, the works needed to replace its single glazed windows with thermally efficient double glazing. Many of the windows are on occupied hospital wards each with eight beds. Without the capacity to decant an entire ward to another space, only the patients from the two beds nearest the windows were relocated during the works. 🇪🇺The European Civil Protection Pool (#ECPP) is a collection of emergency response teams and assets. Countries that participate in the Union Civil Protection Mechanism make these resources available for collective European emergency response operations. In return, they can benefit from EU financial support. The Pool includes resources such as urban search and rescue teams, forest fire fighting capacities, emergency medical teams, water purification equipment, high-capacity pumping units, etc. Resources in the Pool are available for immediate deployment worldwide, following a request for assistance through the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre. The resources are of a certified quality, which is tested in EU-funded exercises. They are generally self-sufficient for several days and interoperable in terms of procedures and technical infrastructure. In addition, key staff is trained through the training program of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The medical teams and equipment within the Pool make up the European Medical Corps. The European Medical Corps includes experts, mobile biosafety laboratories, medical evacuation capacities, etc. Overall, Member States and Participating States in the Union Civil Protection Mechanism have currently offered 139 capacities in the Pool (October 2024) #ECPP #europe #eusavesifes #teamMREI

This Veterans Day, we honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. Their service extends beyond the battlefield, profoundly shaping emergency medicine and prehospital care. Military research has revolutionized how we respond to emergencies, particularly with trauma and in wilderness and austere environments. Techniques like tourniquet use, trauma care, and hypothermia management—developed in military settings—are now lifesaving tools in both civilian and remote medical contexts. At the Mountain Training Network, our Wilderness Medicine brand, we proudly carry this legacy forward. Our curriculum is built on the latest clinical practice guidelines and enriched by the expertise of Colin MacDonald (pictured below), a Marine veteran and one of our Wilderness Medicine textbook authors. His unique perspective bridges the gap between military and civilian wilderness medicine, equipping responders to face the most extreme conditions. This shared knowledge doesn’t happen in isolation. Organizations like the Wilderness Medical Society (WMS) and the United States Department of Defense Defense Health Agency (DHA) work together to ensure that advancements in military medicine benefit wilderness and civilian providers alike. Their collaboration has been instrumental in developing Prolonged Field Care (PFC) guidelines, which empower medical providers to deliver effective care in delayed evacuation scenarios—crucial for both military operations and wilderness expeditions. At Capital City CPR, we incorporate these advancements across all our courses. From First Aid/CPR, where we include STOP THE BLEED® at no extra cost, to advanced programs like Wilderness First Aid and Industrial First Responder, our training reflects the latest in lifesaving techniques. Today, we honor the lasting contributions of our veterans to emergency care and express our deepest gratitude for their service. #VeteransDay #WildernessMedicine #ProlongedFieldCare #STOPTHEBLEED #TECC #MountainTrainingNetwork #CapitalCityCPR

#TBT – Did you know? On this week, four years ago, the 250,000 square-foot Miami Beach Convention Center was converted into a 450-bed field hospital, including 400 acute care patient rooms, 50 isolation pods, nursing stations, an onsite laboratory and pharmacy, and support areas… in less than two weeks! The project was part of the US Army Corps of Engineers' effort to alleviate pressure on local hospitals from the anticipated surges of COVID-19 patients. By calling on years of healthcare planning and design experience, utilizing an accelerated design-build process, and relying on expedited supply efforts, this project was completed more than a full day ahead of schedule. To learn more about how the design-build team of Robins & Morton and RLF worked together to pull off this incredible transformation, click https://bit.ly/3U2x8Is #TBT #ConventionCenterConversion #COVIDReliefEfforts #DesignBuildChallenge #HealthcareHeroes #Teamwork #HealthcareArchitects #RLFaei
