An interlinked fire and carbon monoxide alarm system played a vital role in saving the life of a tenant living in a social housing property in Scotland. Neighbours were alerted to the fire in Dalkeith, near Edinburgh, when home safety specialist Aico’s multi-sensor alarm was activated and began to sound. While the resident was initially unable to respond, neighbours who heard the alarms through the wall were able to wake them so they could get to safety. In a recent report by City Matters, concerns were raised by council tenants of the Middlesex Street Estate in Central London regarding the installation of sprinkler systems in their homes. The tenants, who fear the potential for unnecessary disruption and damage, argue against the perceived necessity of these fire prevention measures. This situation highlights the critical dialogue between fire safety protocols and resident concerns, underscoring the importance of addressing fire hazards, particularly in high-rise apartment buildings. In the UK, the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire, which resulted in significant loss of life, is a reminder of the catastrophic potential of fires in such buildings. The debate over sprinkler installations in council estates reflects broader challenges in balancing safety improvements with the practicalities and perceptions of those living in affected homes. Ensuring safety in high-rise buildings is of great importance, and this includes fostering an understanding of the risks and the measures taken to mitigate them. The discussion around the Middlesex Street Estate underscores the need for clear communication and engagement between authorities and residents on safety initiatives. Just a glimpse of condition of metro stations at the time of raining. Specifically youngsters ,Gen next sitting all around on the floor to take shelter from rain which is illegal and for the comfort and convenience of public should not be allowed.(could not click the picture) Everybody clung to the rallings of the stairs making it difficult to climb. There was fear of stamped and danger of elderly falling down. Being living in a civilised society it is our duty to follow the rules. People should come out on the road so as to make it easy for commuters to travel and after coming out on the main road, some arrangements can be made to reach home. There is possibility of water entering the metro stations which are usually underground and think of the damage it can cause. Authorities please pay attention and general public it is your duty to follow the rules. Few constables of CISF can not manage all this. #delhirains #waterlogging #metrostations #publicresponsibility #safetyconcerns #publicrules # Please share it to create awareness. https://lnkd.in/gbThc2W6

The Brantford Fire Department is launching an educational campaign to remind homeowners and landlords that they are responsible for installing and maintaining smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on their properties as per the Ontario Fire Code. The campaign comes after Brantford Fire responded to 41 residential fires last year, where 23 of those homes did not have working smoke alarms. That’s why the Brantford Fire Department encourages all homeowners to inspect their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are: ✅ In working order ✅ Installed where required: 👉 Including every storey of your home and outside sleep areas 👉 Additional alarms may be required based on the year your home was built ✅ Replaced within the manufacturer’s suggested time frame. To learn more about smoke and carbon monoxide requirements, including where and how to install them, please visit Brantford.ca/KnowTheCode
