This throne-worthy document covers everything from universal "superloos" to single-sex cubicles, ensuring you'll always know where to go when nature calls. Key features include: - Minimum "activity space" for comfortable manoeuvring - Full-length cubicle enclosures for privacy - Clear signage to avoid embarrassing wrong turns - Emergency access provisions for safety - Specific requirements for accessible toilets and changing places Approved Document T applies to non-residential buildings, excluding schools, early years facilities, custodial cells, and en-suite hotel rooms. The Bottom Line While aiming to improve public facilities, Approved Document T's timing is s welcome as a clogged toilet. The industry is already navigating the complexities of the Building Safety Act, which includes new obligations for duty holders and a stringent three-gateway approval process for higher-risk buildings. I have some feelings about this. While I support the idea of creating more housing options, I think it is a grave mistake to reduce double stairwell egress to single. While the addition of sprinklers and other life safety measures is prudent, eliminating an egress route should not be part of the equation, for you can never fully plan for what the circumstances might be in an emergency. It will be interesting to see what kind of traction this gets and what municipal fire departments do with these changes.

This change removes the previous requirement for a second exit stairwell, opening up new possibilities for innovative housing projects.
