"As of the time of writing, the ANC of Ramaphosa has yet to concede the right of DA ministers to appoint non-partisan professionals to head their departments, to be able to make sure procurement is done honestly and cost-efficiently, or to have the main say over policy in their own ministries. Indeed, ANC “moderates” (and their proxies in the media) have expressed violent opposition to all these ideas. Yet while the DA can compromise on which ministries it accepts, and their number, it would be political suicide for it to enter into a coalition government on the current basis. The DA (and the white minority more generally) will be immediately blamed and scapegoated for the accumulated failures of government the moment the DA takes office in the GNU. Its ministers need to be able to move extraordinarily quickly to show that the DA is making a positive difference in government, and to the lives of the majority. Yet absent these concessions from the ANC, the DA would be in no position to effect any kind of useful change at all. DA ministers would find themselves trapped and compromised, in office but not in power, and any leverage they might have would rapidly drain away as popular disillusionment with them set in." A Statement of Public Interest (SPI) is a policymaking tool used by the NSW Legislative Council to inform decision-making and robust parliamentary debate. Not all SPIs tabled in Parliament fulfil these intended purposes. The Shadow SPI project – an initiative of the Susan McKinnon Foundation – aims to improve the quality of SPIs and their usefulness, and to shine a light on the importance of transparency in policymaking ➡bit.ly/3WSFlCe For more evidence-based policy projects check out the Susan McKinnon Collection ➡ bit.ly/49UoJ0m Blueprint Institute, Per Capita Australia, Rachel Maguire, Seamus Coleman #evidencebased #legislation #publicpolicy #transparency

I help solve complex legal problems | Impulsive Innovator|Trial Lawyer | I am Atty. Jamal Hadjiusman
Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban faces a significant dilemma as she navigates her legal troubles. Preventively suspended by the Ombudsman for alleged involvement in illegal POGO operations, her political future is uncertain with the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COC) approaching in October 2024. 1. Running for Re-election: Despite her suspension, Guo might choose to run in May 2025 Elections, but she risks disqualification or COC cancellation by opponents. Even if she wins the election, the ongoing legal battles and potential COMELEC decisions could remove her from office. 2. Resigning from Politics: Given the allegations and prejudgment, Guo might consider resigning to avoid further scrutiny and preserve her dignity, though her legal battles would continue. 3. Strategic Legal Maneuvers: By appealing the suspension and pursuing legal avenues, she could delay decisions, allowing her to run. However, ongoing legal issues would hamper her governance effectiveness, and she might still face disqualification or cancellation of her COC.

I am Edwin Maria John, author of the book, "Hello, Neighbourocracy!". It is about a new type of governance system, a new type of politics called Neighbourocracy. We insist on governance-from-below, a type of governance where, unlike in the present-day democracy, people have an effective say, and hence scope to exercise power, not just during elections, but throughout, ongoingly, every day. Again, here, not just a few but everyone has a say. We call this "deeper democracy" ensuring dynamic and participatory governance by all. People, disillusioned with the various hues of present-day systems of politics and governance, will get in neighbourocracy a refreshingly different and hope-inspiring alternative. The whole thing is simple and easy to implement. It is a small highly readable book. You would read it in no time. I can send the little book for free to anyone interested in getting it. My e-mail: edwinmjohn@gmail.com. My WhatsApp number is (+91) 9442648224. Please let me have your feedback.

How did you feel when you read that thousands of people living in public housing towers in the inner-north were told their homes were to be be demolished? I know the shock I felt. More importantly, how do you think they felt? This may or may not be a good idea, but is this the way we treat people and their homes? Is this the way to go about housing reform? Human rights has a lot to say about this, which is embodied is a set of principles called the Human Rights-Based Approach. Now these issues will be examined by a Victorian Parliamentary Committee. The Legislative Council Legal and Social Issues Committee has announced an inquiry into the redevelopment of Victoria's public housing towers. Here are the extensive terms of reference 👇 https://lnkd.in/gfn8py8r The committee recently announced that it has begun taking submissions, which can be made anytime from now until 31 March 2025.
