Fostering competition in AI is a hot topic on both sides of the Atlantic. On July 23, we saw a rare joint statement on competition in AI foundation models from the competition authorities of the EU, UK and US. Alarmingly, research has highlighted that 58% of UK IT decision makers have only invested in AI due to the fear of being left behind. Despite the significant concerns around the implementation of AI, including the associated cost and the potential for staff misuse, the majority of organisations are choosing to integrate AI without establishing proper strategies first. A reassuring/not reassuring academic look at the evaluation of clinical AI – yes, the systematic review found the Human-AI system is usually better than humans alone, but the comparison to AI alone is not quite as favorable! The key here is how it demonstrates the need for serious implementation/integration work and cultural support to maximize the benefits from augmentation – often the neglected part following derivation and validation of models and systems. https://lnkd.in/gvskfQB2
