Our Sector Support programme for 2024/25 aims to provide councils with new and enhanced tools and support to harness opportunities, drive improvement across all regions and deliver critical services to communities. 🤔 If you think Sector Support isn’t for you and your local authority, maybe it’s time to take another look at our offer… ⤵️ “Every day is a school day” or if you prefer, “you’re never fully trained in anything” is something we often say - but how do we demonstrate that in local government? In an ever changing environment, there’s always new opportunities to explore and challenges to address. The Local Government Association’s sector support programme provides a whole host of ways to both support and grow as individuals and teams, as well as reflect and consider how best to address some of our biggest challenges. We often think it’s just about support for elected members - and yes, we still do a lot of that, through Leadership Essentials, Leadership Academy and Next Generation - but there’s also new programmes for chief executives along with specific support for Finance Directors/S151 officers as well as Monitoring Officers. There’s also bespoke opportunities to bring top teams together, whether politicians, officers or both. And of course our extensive programmes around Transformation, Workforce, Governance and Finance are also open to all. Perhaps our best know ‘product’ remains the Corporate Peer Challenge, with newer siblings the Finance and Governance Peer Challenges. With increasing awareness of the need to test our assurance measures, the CPC provides a great opportunity to get a real insight from sector peers into your strengths and areas to focus on across those building blocks of what make a great council. And alongside these are our programmes to support Children’s Services, planning (Planning Advisory Service (PAS)), wider public estate work through One Public Estate, and support around adult social care and health (Partners in Care and Health), not to mention Cyber, Digital and Technology | Local Government Association plus new programmes around culture and leisure services. If you haven’t looked at what the LGA can do for your council lately, I think you might be pleasantly surprised… #localgov #sectorledimprovement #leadership

☎️ Calling out to all my #localgov contacts - the Local Government Association has just launched our Sector Supporg programme for 2024/25. Having the opportunity to be up close and personal to how it all gets put together and then monitor progress through the year, I know that it still remains hugely popular and continues to hits the spots it needs to - support for local government, delivered by local government. Highlights and developments you can expect to see this year include; ▶️ our strengthened Corporate Peer Challenge - reviewed and refreshed for the current backdrop; ▶️ extension of our popular Transformation programme to include more opportunities for elected members; ▶️ the launch of our flagship national recruitment campaign, plus ▶️ all the usual elements you expect, including our change in control/political leadership support. And ofc a reminder that the LGA provides extensive support across a number of other areas, including Children’s Social Care, Partners in Adults Social Care, cyber digital and technology, the One Public Estate programme, the Planning Advisory Service, and procurement support. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ More details here ⬇️⬇️⬇️

How the transport industry attracts and retains top, local talent, was the main discussion point at Roads Australia’s Future Leaders Forum earlier this year. The day began with a keynote presentation from Larry McGrath, McConnell Dowell’s General Manager for NSW and the ACT, who shared a wealth of practical advice with our future leaders, setting the scene for a wide-ranging discussion led by the young professionals, our future leaders, nominated by our members. Our delegates focused their discussion around four key questions: 1️⃣ How do we create a supportive culture in our sector? 2️⃣ How do we develop the skills we need to deliver our transport infrastructure pipeline? 3️⃣ How do we cultivate innovation in our workplaces? 4️⃣ How do we support a diverse and inclusive transport and infrastructure workforce? The delegates’ findings and recommendations have been recorded in our Future Leaders report, which you can read here: https://lnkd.in/gRjpTWYq Roads Australia also extends a huge thank you to our sponsor, CPB Contractors, for their support of the Forum and Future Leaders Program; and especially to our Committee – Chair Stuart Cook, BG&E; Deputy Chair Verity Turner, Transurban; Alex Berry, McConnell Dowell; Jana B., Fika Consulting; Ly Galanos, Aurecon; Thilanka Silva, Arup.
