Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio: 2024 reinforced what six years of veterinary practice has taught me: the most powerful impact comes from combining clinical expertise with community education. Key Achievements: 1. Expanded Community Health Impact - Led World Antimicrobial Awareness Week outreach in Lugbe, Abuja - Developed comprehensive educational programs for poultry farmers - Strengthened advocacy for responsible antibiotic use in livestock 2. Enhanced Veterinary Services - Advanced preventive care protocols at Kingston Agrovet - Implemented structured farmer education programs - Developed practical guidelines for day-old chick management 3. Strengthened One Health Initiatives - Advocated for integrated approach to animal and human health - Enhanced collaboration between veterinary and public health sectors - Advanced community understanding of antimicrobial resistance Three posts that captured our mission: 1. "Preventing Common Poultry Diseases" "Prevention isn't just about reacting when birds fall ill, it's about setting up a system that keeps your birds healthy from day one." https://lnkd.in/dPJQPyDi 2. "Game-Changing Tips for Healthy Day-Old Chicks" "The brooding stage is the most important stage in the life of chicks. Once you get it right, the outcome of your birds will be very good." https://lnkd.in/dsNFAR-u 3. "One Health Day Reflection" "Health is a shared currency that impacts us all, and each of us has a role to play in its protection." https://lnkd.in/dHg2kitq Looking ahead: 2025 will focus on expanding our preventive care protocols while strengthening the fight against antimicrobial resistance. The future of livestock health depends on both clinical excellence and community education. To every farmer working to improve animal health through better practices: your commitment to prevention over treatment is building a stronger, more sustainable future for livestock farming. #veterinarymedicine #poultryfarming #OneHealth #AMR -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind! A Welcome Development in Animal Health Services: The African Union Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) and the Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines (GALVmed) have joined forces to enhance animal health services and vaccine uptake across African Union member states. 🌍💉 This development aligns perfectly with the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) ongoing work, which is focused on the prevention and detection of diseases, and transformation of livestock production and health by enhancing capacities along value chains. 🐄🌾 It also resonates with the objectives of the GF-TADs Strategy for 2021-2025, which emphasizes prioritization, development and application of global, regional and sub-regional strategies, capacity building, communication and advocacy, as well as partnerships for resource mobilization. 📚🌐 The Partnership and Financing Panel (PFP) of the GF-TADs, which was established to work towards achieving these goals, is actively contributing to this cause. Both AU-IBAR and GALVmed are important partners of FAO and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in these efforts under the GF-TADs umbrella. 🤝 Looking forward to seeing more of these partnerships to tackle transboundary animal diseases. 🐾🔬 #fao #gftads #transboundaryanimaldiseases #animalhealth #auibar #galvmed #SustainableLivestock #TransformingTogether #GlobalDialogueToAction #FAOLivestock

A new study calls for a moratorium on modern industrial animal agriculture facilities due to significant human health risks from zoonotic diseases. These facilities are breeding grounds for pathogens that could lead to the next pandemic. FOIA documents reveal the AVMA’s collusion with industry to legitimize cruel mass killing methods, such as ventilation shutdown plus (VSD+) that involves sealing up buildings, pumping in heat, and waiting for the animals inside to die after many hours. https://lnkd.in/d9zt4p7q Veterinarians have the power to oppose these cruel practices and advocate for the best interests of all species. More than 2,000 veterinarians have signed onto Veterinarians Against Ventilation Shutdown to urge the AVMA to reclassify this method of depopulation as “not recommended.” If you're an AVMA member, contact your AVMA Delegate and voice your disapproval. If you are not a veterinarian, please share this with your veterinarian and encourage them to contact their delegate. While the H5N1 bird flu mainly affects wild migratory water birds and domestic poultry, bird flu viruses can spread (less frequently) to mammals, including cats and humans. Recent investigations implicate food as a source of infection for cats, most often unpasteurized milk and raw or undercooked meat (e.g., poultry). Cats can contract bird flu by: 🐾 Drinking raw or unpasteurized milk. 🐾 Eating raw eggs. 🐾 Eating raw, undercooked, or uncooked freeze-dried meat or animal products (including retail pet diets that contain raw meat). 🐾 Hunting and eating wild birds. 🐾 Direct contact with infected dairy cows. If you suspect your cat has bird flu, call your veterinary or emergency veterinary clinic—before taking cats in to be seen—and describe any clinical signs you have noticed so that the veterinary team can be ready when the patient arrives. Tell the veterinarian about any contact your cat has had with livestock, poultry, or wildlife. Tell the veterinarian if your cat has had any raw or unpasteurized milk or raw or undercooked meat. Limit your cat’s contact with immunocompromised individuals if any exposure to the virus is possible.
