Happy 4th of July! Here's 4 things you're likely already doing that can lead to a project management role: 1. Facilitating meetings Not all meetings are created equal. Have meetings that are effective. Set agenda, evaluated list, driving decisions and progress. 2. Managing work and teams I've spoken a lot about building PM experience where you are. If you've done this, you're likely already performing PM duties. Document what you're doing, the outcomes, and supportive metrics. 3. Reporting on KPIs How do you know if what you're doing is worthwhile? You need goals and metrics to measure against. That's where key performance indicators (KPIs) come in. Make sure every project you're on has them, evaluates them, and reports on them regularly. 4. Executing progression What gets measured gets managed (see KPIs above). As a PM, you're constantly driving progress forward. There's a good chance you're doing this in your current work and projects. Make sure you keep a running journal to reference toward new opportunity. See, you're already a project manager. You just don't have the title yet. Keep doing the above. Document everything you're doing. Incorporate effectively into your resume. Start applying, networking, and pursuing new opportunities. Look at you go, project manager.
This is great, Logan! Especially the point about documenting goals and metrics. Often those skills fly under the radar, but they're so valuable for PM roles.
Happy 4th! These are solid tips! Facilitating effective meetings and documenting outcomes have been game-changers for me.
Absolutely! These foundational skills are key to transitioning into a project management role. Effectively facilitating meetings, managing teams, reporting on KPIs, and driving progress are all core PM responsibilities. Documenting these experiences and metrics not only showcases your capability but also prepares you for new opportunities. It's about recognizing and leveraging your existing skills to excel in project management.
Love this! Logan Langin, PMP )) You're absolutely right, many of us are already doing project management tasks without realizing it. Thanks for highlighting these key skills))
