We wanted to take a moment to pause and celebrate the impactful work of two of our Employee Resource Groups over the last few months. Throughout May, AAPI @ LogicGate amplified the unique contributions and experiences of AAPI community members, within our own LogicGate team and beyond. Through weekly spotlights, an AAPI Short Film Screening, and more, each initiative provided all of our employees an opportunity to deepen their understanding and appreciation of AAPI culture. Last month in June, Pride @ LogicGate celebrated LGBTQIA+ Pride Month by hosting engaging events like Pride Trivia and a Fireside Chat featuring individuals from our internal and external LogicGate communities. These activities not only celebrated LGBTQIA+ identities but also provided opportunities for education and allyship within our community. These impactful efforts are rooted in our Core Values and support our ongoing commitment to DEIB and cultivating an environment where everyone feels safe bringing their most authentic selves to work at LogicGate. #DEIB #LogicGate #Inclusion

Introducing my true self to my professional community has been a long process. I chose to establish my career first, prioritizing my ability to provide for my family. As a result, I won’t ever match society’s expectations for feminine appearance. I will be forever grateful to the vast majority of colleagues who have accepted me for who I am regardless of my how I look and what clothing I wear. Most had never before worked closely with a transgender person, and most put in honest work to learn. Conscious effort is always more important and impactful than getting pronouns right every time. I would love to make a list of every person whose compassion and sincerity has brought me to tears, but it would be hundreds of names. Some others have been unable or unwilling to understand, preferring to take personal offense at my existence. While they are the exception rather than the rule, the effect has been devastating. In this first installment, I’ll pass on the most important lesson I’ve learned. Presenting as a cisgender, white male in the workplace has offered me incalculable advantage. All three of those designations opened doors. I was blissfully unaware of my privilege until I was perceived to fall outside two of those categories. Unconscious bias is real. My daily experience is fundamentally different from what it was. While my current workplace is the most accepting environment I’ve been in, life will never be as easy as it once was. For those who have not experienced what it’s like to fall outside of the norm, it is incumbent on you to work tirelessly on your unconscious bias. It takes effort to see the advantage you have. It takes effort to actively mitigate that unearned privilege in support of your coworkers. Every meeting, every conversation is an opportunity to lift your fellow humans up. Without that effort, it is nearly impossible for your colleagues to show up authentically and give their all. Radical inclusion drives performance. More to come.
My experience coming out as transgender in the GovCon market has been eye opening, to say the least. Today is National Coming Out Day. The stories I’ve read on this platform have motivated me to share mine. Over the next few weeks, I’ll share some of the surprising experiences I’ve had and lessons I’ve learned. Special thanks to REI Systems, Geocent (now Sev1Tech), and Sev1Tech LLC for being a part of my journey.

Do you know what code-switching is? It is when an individual has to change their speech, tone, voice, and behaviors to fit into mainstream culture. Many minority groups are known to code-switch when interacting with people at work, in professional settings, or generally outside of their own culture and community. #CodeSwitch #DEI #BlackWomen #Inclusion #Equity #IOPsych
