The U.S. grid is undergoing a significant transformation, with Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) including solar panels and wind turbines playing an increasingly pivotal role. How can these individual, often small-scale power sources plan to effectively participate in the energy market? Enter DER aggregators. Alex Lago explores the realm of DER aggregators in his latest article with the Utility Analytics Institute (UAI). https://lnkd.in/gjxb7mqe #GridInnovation #DERs #EnergyTransition #utilityanalytics

🌎Next stop on the #LDES world tour! Here is our very own Julia Souder kicking off Solar Media Limited’s Energy Storage Summit USA! 🤝The #StorageSummit provides a platform that connects key players within the energy industry to interact within the expanding US market. 🇺🇸The US continues to make major progress, with California surpassing 5GW of grid-scale energy storage installations. Even more interesting is that Texas is expected to surpass California with more grid batteries than any other state. 📈According to the Federal Energy Administration, developers are projecting to complete 6.4 gigawatts of new grid battery capacity. 🤩With all these exciting developments, #LDES remains a crucial component in aiding initiatives towards energy transition.

To move from an electricity system based on coal and gas to one based on solar and wind, the US needs a very different power grid. On some estimates, annual installations of new transmission capacity need to double. To help build the grid that a new clean electricity system will need, the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has been working on regulatory reforms, intended to smooth the path for new investments in transmission lines. This week on The Energy Gang, Ed is joined by Amy Myers-Jaffe of New York University and Shanu Mathew of Lazard Asset Management, to unpack the latest orders from FERC. READ: Texas has seen tremendous growth in wind and solar generation capacity. But intermittent resources aren’t enough to ensure reliability in meeting the state’s growing electricity demand — and inadequate investment in dispatchable resources like natural gas and batteries means the grid’s stability is increasingly at risk. To enhance reliability, state grid operator ERCOT could deploy a portfolio of available “insurance” options, write experts from the Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies (CES). Their new report outlines the risk to the grid and ways to work toward the best interests of all market participants, consumers and producers alike. 📖 Access the report: https://bit.ly/42Cyhub.

I liked this graphic from the U.S. Energy Information Administration that highlights the utility-scale operating assets on the US grid. A utility-scale asset is defined as an operating asset with 1 megawatt or greater of combined nameplate capacity. I think it would be great if they had the potential to also include the residential solar capacity. #electricity #energy #energytransition #energypolicy #energysecurity #energystorage https://lnkd.in/erAHQnB4
