Beyond word count: I've found that while word frequency counts can be helpful in qualitative research, they need to be used carefully and alongside other methods that capture the full context and nuances of social phenomena. The true value of qualitative research, in my experience, lies in its ability to explore and understand the complexities of human experiences. This means we have to go beyond just counting how often words appear and really uncover the deeper meanings and stories behind them...🤓🤓 #qualitativeresearch #research #PhD #postdoc

🌟 What are y'all's most effective/favorite research method? 🌟 For me, I feel that case studies, as a practicum, are a bit outdated. From an understanding perspective, case studies are good for story-based learners. As a visual learner, I struggle to unpack the details of some cases (possible hot take). In my experience, qualitative research, specifically ethnographical studies, is how I learn and uncover insights best! I love to get into the weeds and fully delve into the human experience by stepping into others' shoes. 🌟 What are y'all's most effective/favorite research method? 🌟

Did you know that our brain was never wired to read? While reading "Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World" by Dr. Maryanne Wolf, I found it fascinating that our brains were never naturally wired for reading. Unlike spoken language, which is naturally hardwired into our brains, reading is an acquired skill that reshapes the brain’s circuits. What we read and how we read shape our brains and our thinking. As educators, we’re always thinking about the best ways to engage students in meaningful reading. We don’t overthink the process of reading, especially with older students. Young readers today are growing up in a world dominated by digital media. While this offers incredible access to information, it may bring different consequences. The first letter in the book, The Canary in the Mind, mentions how digital reading alters the brain’s ability to engage deeply with content, potentially impacting empathy and critical analysis. Dr. Wolf’s metaphor of 'the canary in the mind' is a powerful reminder of the need to protect the brain’s ability for deep, reflective reading. In today's world, it's more important than ever to immerse students in such experiences to help build stronger neural connections. Dr. Wolf stresses the 'utmost importance of being informed by the growing knowledge on the impact of different media, so we can prepare all children, wherever they live, to read deeply and well, in whatever medium.' Pausing here….. I wonder how are we engaging students in immersive reading experiences while balancing both digital and print. I’d love to hear your thoughts and strategies—feel free to share in the comments. #Reading #ReadingBrain #DeepReading #Literacy #CognitiveDevelopment

New Learner Corpus! We are pleased to share the preprint introducing the #KSAUHS Learner Corpus—a pioneering longitudinal resource for investigating the development of EFL academic writing among Arabic L1 learners. This corpus provides a comprehensive dataset for analyzing writing proficiency over time and offers insights into the influence of emerging technologies like #ChatGPT on student writing. Our research delves into critical areas such as lexico-grammatical development, cross-linguistic influences, and the effectiveness of instructional interventions. We believe this corpus will be a valuable resource for researchers, educators, and linguists focused on #SecondLanguageAcquisition, #EAP, and #CorpusLinguistics. 📄 Learn more about our corpus and their implications for #TEFL practices and #LanguageEducation.
