Earlier this year we sat down with The Golf Business to discuss the governance changes we've implemented, and how, by working with our Professional team we are trying to deliver for our members. The magazine is out now, and the article can be read below #pmgc#peterboroughmilton
Ben Machin, the general manager of Peterborough Milton Golf Club and Adam Chamberlain, the club’s head pro, discuss the new governance of the club and how they’ve maintained membership levels https://lnkd.in/eHUjX4n8
Chasing Excellence: Rowing Towards Professional Growth
We have a competition each year at Shrewsbury where houses row against each other and try and catch the boat in front. It's called Bumps. You try and 'bump' the boat in front, resulting in you moving up the order for the next race. Watching this years competition made me think of what a good metaphor this race is to capture the essence of career progression and the continuous pursuit of learning and improvement.
The Boat Ahead: Your Benchmark
The boat in front of you represents a benchmark—an ideal or role model in your field. It could be a colleague, mentor, or industry leader whose achievements inspire you. Observing this boat provides a clear target for your growth, not out of envy, but to measure your progress and motivate your development.
The Race: A Continuous Journey
Rowing towards the boat ahead isn’t about reaching a final destination but about continuous improvement. Each stroke requires effort, focus, and persistence. Professional growth mirrors this, demanding lifelong learning. Stopping means stagnation; continuous effort keeps you moving forward and if you’re right at the front you have to keep working hard to stay there.
Overcoming Hurdles: The Challenges Along the Way
In every race, there are obstacles—choppy waters, strong headwinds and boats that make mistakes that you have to navigate. These represent the challenges you face in your career, from mastering new skills to adapting to industry changes. Overcoming these hurdles enhances your capabilities and experience.
The Finish Line: A Moving Target
In professional development, there’s no fixed finish line. Today’s goal may evolve tomorrow. This ever-moving target keeps you engaged and ensures that your career remains vibrant and fulfilling.
Conclusion: Embrace the race
Every stroke forward is a victory, bringing you closer to your full potential and a rewarding, ever-evolving career. Keep your eyes on the boat ahead, and enjoy the journey of catching up.
The annual House Bumps competition is in full swing down at the river.
It’s great to see so much support down at the Boathouse - good luck to all the rowers taking part in round one of the competition today.

This weekend was the Kentucky Derby, and on the historic 150th running of this race, Mystik Dan delivered a breath-taking win, beating second place Sierra Leone and third place Forever Young in the first three horse photo finish since 1947 ended in a 3-horse photo finish.
This year's race marks a unique milestone with the 150th running of the Derby — the first race took place back in 1875.
There are lots of interesting facts about the Derby, with the drink of the race is the Mint Julep, made with Woodford Reserve as the official bourbon for the race. There wasn’t an official trophy for the race for almost 50 years, the first race was in 1875 and the trophy was created in 1924. To this day the Kentucky Derby trophy is one of the only solid gold trophies in the United States. The fastest Kentucky Derby was run by Secretariat in 1973 (1:59.40). The slowest winning time was run by Kingman in 1891 (2:52.25 for the mile and a half). There have been three fillies to win the race.
I love the Kentucky Derby not only because it’s exciting, but also because it always provides important leadership lessons. Here are a few from the 2024 race:
You can win against all odds.
You just never know.
You can’t stop until the end.
This was an exciting race to watch, and even more interesting doing research on the history of the Derby as well as the winner. If you have something interesting to add to the lore of the Kentucky Derby, drop it in the chat. Don’t forget to like, comment, and follow so you don’t miss future content.

If a Football Club is Recruiting for a Specific Position, Should They Look at Players Specifically Operating in that Position?
In my opinion the answer to this question is a Resounding No!!! Let’s be more specific. Should a Club Searching for a Right Back Exclusively Look at Right Backs? A players position is often determined by a Specific Coach or the Group-Think of a Football Department. The assumption that a given Coach or Football Departments is operating at an optimum level is a mistake that should be factored into your process.
Matty Cash spent a lot of his career at Nottingham Forest as an Attacking Midfielder. He’s now embedded into the Right Back Position in a good Aston Villa Team.
Finally it’s also important to understand the evolution of a Player’s Position based on where he/she is in their career.
Translation: The revenue generated by the Toptracer product surpasses that of the entire golf club.
This is because, The Toptracer product is constantly evolving, to meet the needs of the customer.
Let the article below, be your guide!!!

In 2017, Gloucester Golf Club in England was on the brink of closure after several years of losing revenue. Club members came to the rescue and negotiated a members’ lease to keep the facility open. To help boost income, the club installed Toptracer at its range in 2022, resulting in a significant 350% increase in balls hit.
Since then, the driving range has become a focal point of the facility, surpassing the golf course in revenue generation. Notably, Toptracer has helped successfully attract a new clientele, with many non-members converting to full-paying members. Additionally, the club now organizes events, competitions, and private parties using Toptracer, further enhancing its financial stability.
