Logistics UK's Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ben Garratt spoke at a Transport Select Committee session this week on the Future of Transport Data. The session explored the opportunity for data to revolutionise the logistics sector. It was also highlighted that data has already created efficiencies, higher standards, and lower carbon emissions within the sector.   Logistics UK stressed that there is a wealth of data collected by Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, National Highways, Network Rail, and others, but suggested that collecting this data better would be supported by more strategic data objectives from the sector as a whole. We also highlighted the importance of focusing on goals, rather than having a data-sharing first approach. It is easier to share and aggregate data if the shared purpose is clear.    The session can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/eGgbr2Nr

The goal to support frictionless trade and the sharing of of structured supply chain data can revolutionise the sector. We have seen first-hand how forward-thinking logistics and supply chain members can deliver efficiencies, cost savings, and reductions in administration when we work together.
