We're honored that the MLK1101 Supportive Housing is a recipient of the 2024 AIA California Residential Design Award. Congratulations to Holos Communities and our collaborators on this project! . "The jury admires the dynamic, artfully composed use of cost-effective materials in this supportive housing project, the thoughtful approach to environmental strategies and the successful arrangement of shared spaces to foster connection within a tight infill site. All elevate this complex beyond the ordinary." . 📸 : Iwan Baan; Paul Vu, Here and Now Agency #architecture #architecturaldesign #loharchitects #lorcanoherlihy #loha #aialosangeles #interior #dezeen #awardwinning #architecturelovers #archpaper #archdaily #losangelesarchitecture #losangelesdesign #architectureview #architecturemagazine #architizer #architectureview #metroplismag #architecturemagazine #architecturedigest #wallpapermagazine #architecturalrecord #designdaily #designinspiration #facadedesign #architecturephotography #nytimes

https://buff.ly/3XUEWzh Our Granville1500 and Barrington1503 projects for UCLA were highlighted in Fast Company over the weekend in Patrick Sisson's coverage of the state of student housing for higher education in California. As Sisson writes, "California has become emblematic of the dual challenge of keeping college students housed and the experimentation happening as teams of architects, school administrators, and developers attempt to solve a crisis of access and affordability." Completed in 2021, Granville1500 153-unit, 312,287 SF UCLA student housing project, that aims to reinforce a sense of place and the feeling of arrival in its fast-paced, burgeoning neighborhood. The design breaks down the bulk typical of most housing projects by showcasing residential and pedestrian experiences right at street level. Barrington1503 is a co-living building that will reshape how design can be utilized to benefit the community spaces and increase the privacy of the individualized rooms, and is expected to be completed in the coming months. 📸 : Paul Vu, Here And Now Agency, LLC Rize #architecture #architecturaldesign #loharchitects #lorcanoherlihy #loha #aialosangeles #interior #dezeen #awardwinning #architecturelovers #archpaper #archdaily #losangelesarchitecture #losangelesdesign #architectureview #architecturemagazine #architizer #architectureview #metroplismag #architecturemagazine #architecturedigest #wallpapermagazine #architecturalrecord #designdaily #designinspiration #facadedesign #architecturephotography #nytimes

https://buff.ly/4ckut3Y Our book with Rizzoli is out TODAY. Written and designed in collaboration with Greg Goldin and Lorraine Wild, "Building in Place: Architecture Rooted in Context and Social Equity" takes the reader through LOHA's impactful solutions and strategies for architectural projects developed with social, political, and economic context in mind. The drive to redefine architecture as a force for progress has always been a hallmark of Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects [LOHA], enacting a powerful alliance of inventive designs with vigorous social ideals. The location of each project is central as the book addresses the living histories as an essential part of each project's narrative. "Building in Place" includes stories from supportive housing in South Los Angeles, cultural institutions like Sandi Simon Center for Dance at Chapman University, adaptive reuse projects that honor local history, and many others that celebrate the work and Impact of LOHA. Many grateful thanks again to our collaborators and to the LOHA team. "Building in Place: Architecture Rooted in Context and Social Equity" is available at Rizzoli Bookstore and on Amazon. #loharchitects #archpaper #archdaily #architecttura #architektur #arquitectura #theplanmag #dezeen #sciarc #archinect #architecture #architecturedaily #azuremagazine #rizzoli #losangelesdesign #aiala #aiadetroit #detroitarchitecture #losangelesarchitecture #architecturalrecord #archrecordmag #architizer #metropolismag #architecturereview #architecturephotography #designinspiration #rizzoliusa #npr #kcrw

We're honored that the Sandi Simon Center for Dance at Chapman University is the 2024 recipient of the AIA Orange County Honor Award and received a Special Commendation for Historic Preservation. Congratulations to Collette Creppell, AIA, LEED AP, Chapman University and our collaborators on this project. Originally built as a two-story headquarters for the Santiago Orange Growers Association in 1918, the post and beam heavy timber frame building is representative of the industrial vernacular style of its time. LOHA’s adaptive reuse strategy opens the structure with a calculated cut through the original floor, allowing a reorganization into three levels and forming a new circulation through the former packing house. The Sandi Simon Center for Dance houses studio spaces for one-on-one and small groups instruction, performance space for small concerts and master classes, and a faculty studio and offices. The center addresses not only the studio and classroom needs of the dance program, but also provides spaces for students to socially engage as well. 📸 : Eric Staudenmaier #architecture #architecturaldesign #loharchitects #lorcanoherlihy #loha #aialosangeles #interior #dezeen #awardwinning #architecturelovers #archpaper #archdaily #losangelesarchitecture #losangelesdesign #architectureview #architecturemagazine #architizer #architectureview #metroplismag #architecturemagazine #architecturedigest #wallpapermagazine #architecturalrecord #designdaily #designinspiration #facadedesign #architecturephotography #nytimes

South E8 has been shortlisted for The Plan Award in Housing. We're honored to be recognized alongside so many other talented firms and visionary designs. As one of the fastest growing cities in the country, Raleigh is experiencing the need for housing densification and is fostering new centers for community growth. South E8 brings eight units to a site that previously had one. "Metal cladding and an asymmetrical roof define the exterior of South E8. The innovative floorplan integrates living quarters with roof decks and outdoor spaces. The roof deck facing west on the street elevation offers views of downtown, and a deck on the east side of the building that acts as a quieter, more introspective space. The placement of the operable windows also add character to the exterior of the structure. Utilizing an efficient footprint, passive design strategies and recyclable materials, this project brings sustainable approaches to a future vision of housing in the area." https://buff.ly/4dRiIDR 📸 Keith Isaacs

https://buff.ly/3MynSIO We are so pleased that our Malibu project, the Trancas House 2.0, is a recipient of Architectural Record's Record Houses Award for 2024. In its past life, this house was a Record House back in 1987, but burned to the ground in the 2018 Woolsey fires. The owners reached out to Lorcan to redesign a new home on the same footprint. Thus, from the ashes, a new Trancas House was born. Congratulations to Helen and Patrick! 📸 Paul Vu, Here and Now Agency #architecture #architecturaldesign #loharchitects #lorcanoherlihy #loha #aialosangeles #interior #dezeen #awardwinning #architecturelovers #archpaper #archdaily #losangelesarchitecture #losangelesdesign #architectureview #architecturemagazine #architizer #architectureview #metroplismag #architecturemagazine #architecturedigest #wallpapermagazine #architecturalrecord #designdaily #designinspiration #facadedesign #architecturephotography #nytimes
