https://buff.ly/4chJFjc We've been included in Architectural Record's "RECORD Editors Round Up the Most Intriguing Architecture Monographs of 2024." Our forthcoming Rizzoli book Building in Place: Architecture Rooted in Context and Social Equity was created in collaboration between Lorcan O'Herlihy and Greg Goldin and covers 15 context-sensitive projects in Los Angeles and Detroit. Practicing in two single-industry-dominated towns, we take the responsibility of unpacking these environments and listening to lived experiences. Building in Place: Architecture Rooted in Context and Social Equity comes out in September 2024 and is available for pre-order NOW. #loharchitects #archpaper #archdaily #architecttura #architektur #arquitectura #theplanmag #dezeen #harvardGSD #sciarc #archinect #architecture #architecturedaily #azuremagazine #rizzoli #losangelesdesign #aiala #aiadetroit #detroitarchitecture #losangelesarchitecture #architecturalrecord #archrecordmag #architizer #metropolismag #architecturereview #architecturephotography #designinspiration

Having trained and worked alongside architects, I think there is something to be said about the heavy reliance on abstractions. Abstraction can help make a complex idea understandable, but it seems archtecture's reliance on abstraction can sometimes get in the way of selling the "heart" of a project. I'm reminded of time spent studying traditional Japanese gardens. Temple gardens especially depend on the use of narrative tools to describe them. The experience of the garden is itself a story, self-revealing with each turn and unfolding through time as the user is choreographed through both time and space. There's a magic, a form of emergence that occurs between user and landscape, that can only be adequately captured through story. If storytelling ties us to a time and space, how might the narrative design of our buildings also better tie us to time and space? How might this "grounding" enrich our experience, and connections to, the (built) environment itself? #powerofstorytelling #architecturalvisualisation #architecturaldesign #architecture #somaticlandscapes #immersiveexperience #immersivedesign #designconcepts #Japanesegarden #narrativedesign #landscapearchitecture #landscapedesign #placebased #placemaking

And here is the English translation of the article I published yesterday. The monumental double-curved staircase In my previous articles titled Against the tyranny of the right angle and Towards a fluid architecture, I discussed the challenges posed by excessive conformity to standards and industrial logic, and how my evolution towards a fluid and organic architecture allows me to respect the original aesthetic integrity of buildings. Today, I'd like to share a recent project that embodies this philosophy: the design of a monumental double-curved staircase at 95 boulevard Pereire. This building, originally structured with a raised ground floor and a cellar, had lost its main access onto the boulevard and was structured on 3 half-levels. Our main task was therefore to re-establish architectural harmony by designing a new entrance hall that would also serve the redeveloped basement. To respect the soul of the building, I proposed a challenge to my team: to design a staircase that would comply strictly with regulatory standards while integrating elegantly and respectfully with the organic lines of the building's original architecture. To achieve this, the team first drew up a detailed script in our visual programming software, incorporating all the regulatory requirements. We then enriched it with additional parameters that allowed us to extend our aesthetic exploration, refining its design and visual impact. The result is a monumental, fluid staircase that captures the attention of its user. It's a real invitation to slow down, to immerse oneself in the contemplation of how technology can transcend mere function to achieve a form of beauty. When you pass by the same road every single day, you become accustomed to your surroundings, and they start to feel familiar over time. Until... Something new or different comes along and catches your eye. Take the trees, for example. For months, you see the same leaves, the same colors, and no flowers. Then one day, you notice cherry blossoms in the same spot, and you're immediately drawn to them. You want to keep looking because they're so beautiful. Similarly, we've become so accustomed to the architecture around us that we hardly notice it anymore. We need a beautiful change, like those cherry blossoms. Like trees that are merely trees, and not something we want to stop and stare at, we're also surrounded by buildings that are just buildings and not architectural masterpieces. Therefore, what's needed is architecture that makes us admire it for as long as it exists, rather than just being an exciting novelty that wears off in a few days. The kind of architecture that makes you want to keep coming back, which I hear is also known as classical architecture. Just saying. 💁♀️ #architecture #classicalarchitecture #architect

As we delve deeper into the heart of organic architecture, let us remember that it's not just about constructing buildings; it's about cultivating experiences. It's about creating spaces that resonate with the human spirit, where every corner holds the promise of discovery and wonder. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine standing in the midst of a structure that seems to breathe alongside you, where the walls whisper tales of centuries past and dreams of the future. This is the magic of organic architecture – it transcends the boundaries of time and space, inviting us to become a part of something greater than ourselves. In every beam, in every window frame, there lies a story waiting to be told. It's a story of resilience, of adaptability, of the eternal dance between creation and creator. And as we stand on the threshold of possibility, let us remember that the true beauty of organic architecture lies not in its grandeur, but in its ability to touch the soul. So let us walk hand in hand, weaving dreams into reality and breathing life into the spaces around us. Together, we can create a world where architecture isn't just a reflection of our aspirations, but a celebration of the inherent beauty of the natural world. 🌟 Let's build a future where every structure is a testament to the timeless bond between humanity and nature, where architecture becomes a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come. #OrganicArchitecture #HarmonyWithNature #SoulfulSpaces #InspiredByNature #ArchitecturalVisions #design #art #architecturelovers #architecturephotography #architecturedesign #architectureporn #architectureschool #architecturestudent #architecturedetail #architecture_hunter #architecture_best #architecture_view #architecture_minimal #architecture_greatshots #architecturephoto #architecturefactor #architectureworld #architecturemodel #architecturedrawing #architectureinspiration #architecturelover #architecturephoto #architecturedose #architecturegram #architecturestudio #architecturedaily #architectureanddesign #architectureinteriors #architecturephoto
