It was great to see the hospitality industry coming together at Machine Hall for the inaugural Good Food Symposium. Guests heard from Callan Boys Alessandro Pavoni Huss Rachin, Palisa Anderson Rebecca Fanning and Patrick Ryan-Parker sharing their ideas and expertise on how to juggle the complexities of the current economic situation, staffing, pricing, social media and communication. As a newcomer into hospitality (Machine Hall Cafe) there were so many takeaways (pardon the pun 😩): Value creation is more about experience than price with familiar and more personal service driving loyalty - no more 'good evening Madam' A strong team culture can keep highly transient staff engaged. Giving them a shared vision of the future provides them with an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. Staff are an extension of your brand so time invested in them is always time well spent. Google reviews are vital - so ask happy customers to post or only negatives prevail. Answer all negative reviews personally as this will enable brand messaging. Businesses need to be multi platform business, comms are crucial and EDM’s sitting in the shadow of socials are the key to drive immediate sales. Cheers! Nine #hospitality

The Secret to a Successful Wine Club Isn’t Just in the tech, It’s in the Ask! 🍷 I was talking with a partner agency the other day that we share clients with, and we were discussing several of our mutual clients. One client, in particular, has a fantastic Wine Club and VIP program, a connected CRM and POS, and an impressive follow-up process. Despite all this, they’re not experiencing the growth they should be. When it comes to wine clubs, success isn’t solely driven by technology or product—it's often the human touch that makes the difference. I’ve seen time and again that the most successful clubs have staff who don’t just sell—they engage. They ask the right questions when a sale occurs (upsell that sale to a wine club conversion): ❓ “Would you like to join our wine club?” ❓ “Can I introduce you to our latest selection?” ❓ “Have you heard about our upcoming tasting event?” These simple questions turn transactions into relationships, turning one-time buyers into loyal club members. On the flip side, clubs that miss this crucial step often struggle to build a sustainable membership base. It's not just about the tech—it's about connecting, inviting, and making every customer feel like they’re part of something special.
