This winter we’re spotlighting local businesses working towards becoming greener and supporting Barnet’s net zero journey🌍 Meet Ian from IanDecor: “I got rid of my diesel van through the ULEZ Scrappage Scheme and now solely use an electric cargo bike for my decorating business. I bought the cargo bike back in 2019 and gradually used it more and more. The Scheme was just the nudge I needed and I haven't looked back since.” Is your business making eco-friendly changes? We want to hear from you! 👇 https://lnkd.in/epq77QRe

🌱 When we say we’re taking sustainable camping and glamping seriously, we’re not just talking about packing out our trash or using eco-friendly gear. Every aspect of the EO Canopy has been carefully designed for the lowest possible environmental impact, from building materials to strategic partnerships. ♻️ Here are just a few of the ways Electric Outdoors is taking a 360-degree approach to sustainability: • The EO Canopy is built with recycled surfacing materials and a biodegradable pultruded composite structure (using hemp fibers). • The unit is lightweight, portable, and requires no foundation or infrastructure development, meaning it’s designed for low-impact deployment in remote places. • It uses sodium-ion battery packs and a PV array with solar tracking for generating and storing energy (and solar surplus can be supplied back to the utility grid). • For water and waste, it uses a bio-waste incineration system, a rainwater capture system, and an atmospheric fresh water system. It also contains and purifies gray water. • It features off-grid Level 2 EV charging, which opens the outdoors to electric vehicles and reduces CO2e impact. Want even more details on Electric Outdoors’ commitment to sustainability? Reach out anytime, or drop your questions below.

Congrats to Kilroy Realty Corporation on their sustainability progress in 2023! You can't manage what you don't measure, and we're proud to partner with the Kilroy team to empower their teams to reduce costs and drive efficiency across their portfolio. Imagine diving into your office rubbish 🙃 Turns out we don't have to imagine, because we literally just did- all in the name of sustainability! 🌍♻️ At Thankyou Payroll, we believe in taking meaningful action for the environment, which is why we regularly conduct rubbish and recycling audits. These audits help us identify what can be recycled or composted, allowing us to reduce waste and educate our team along the way. In our latest Dunedin office audit, we reduced our rubbish weight by a quarter and cut the volume by more than half by making a few simple changes. Here are some key discoveries: 🍵 Many tea bags contain plastic, so we’re switching to loose leaf tea and a teapot for a more eco-friendly brew. ☕We’re upgrading our coffee containers to avoid plastic-lining. 🥛Soft plastics? We’re still collecting them while we wait for recycling programs to restart. 🍅Composting all food scraps, napkins, and lunch bags in our Bokashi bin. Conducting these audits gives us the insight we need to ensure we’re doing our part – and we encourage other businesses to try it out! 🌱 Would you try a rubbish audit in your office? Here's how you can get started: 1. Weigh your rubbish before the audit 2. Spread the items on a tarp 3. Sort into recyclables, compostable, and general waste 4. Recycle or compost what you can 5. Reweigh your remaining rubbish Give it a go and tag us in your progress so we can celebrate with you 💥

Does it matter to you if the companies you work with are sustainable? (I think the answer is obvious, but no stupid questions.) One thing no one told me when starting a business: It’s expensive to go green! And not just the money… But the time. It took me months to find a wood supplier that could sell me North American harvested and sustainable lumber—months! So let’s get to Reroute - a new company out of Saskatoon. Family-owned (and they are a great family) Years of experience educating people about sustainability. For a company like ours, lots of paint, stain, and ink waste must be hazardous. What would Reroute do? They’d pick it up for me - huge time saver. They came to us needing a sign – it had to be green 🍃. We helped them out - (what a great logo) Check them out at: https://www.reroutesk.ca/ Need a sign that’s made as sustainably as possible? Check out https://lnkd.in/g5RnCrMN

Our last week of recaps from #CWMAConference2024. The final panel of the event moderated by Sarah Willie brought us to new levels of inspiration, showing their commitment to something greater... Jamie Madill of Pro-Claim Group's cross-country network of restoration contractors shared how they aim for diversion before disposal and that sustainability is at the heart 💚 of everything they do. Dramatically reducing their environmental impact at every step of the process including preference to work with insurance companies that also make sustainability a priority. Cascades Recovery+ was up next with Candice Ruggero celebrating 🎉 their 60 years of prioritizing sustainability across 70 facilities. Using recycled fibres in their products and offering opportunities to collect their materials for recycling after use, spotlighted their leadership in circular business models. Glyn Lewis closed out this year’s conference elevating Renewal Development’s work to relocate homes 🏡 to new properties and renew and extend their life for new owners. Remarkably, they showed how their work can be cost and time-competitive with demolition companies and that relocation is often 20-40% cheaper than building new. Much thanks to Encorp Pacific (Canada) - Return-It who was a very appropriate sponsor given their decades of shaping best practices.

3moGo green.. should surely start with helping concerned citizens that are doing your job… Barnet Council you are great at publicaly showing that you are actively doing stuff… but the council team are even better at IGNORING its residents complaining about fly tipping in our area. We are completely ignored as the affected area is an alleyway and out of “public sight” After a good 2.5 years of countless emails being sent to the Barnet street cleaning team as well as cllr MP Dan Tomlinson ( to be fair he did ONCE before he became MP send an internal email that got Zahra B. To reply, then it went all silent - reached out again after he became MP and NOTHING) and CLLR Zahra Beg CLLR Barry Rawlings CLLR Tim Roberts Simon Throssell - maybe you can bring this to someone’s attention?? I have countless times picked up my trash collection kit (little picker and my wheelie bins) and cleaned up and removed the more dangerous items (sharp metals / broken bottles etc.) BUT it’s useless as it seems people have realised Barnet council doesn’t care about this part so it’s becoming worse by the day. #flytipping #barnetCouncil #environment #streetcleaning #Taxpayer #politics #THEYDONTCAREABOUTOURTAXES
