Camden GCSE students celebrated their results last week, once again achieving grades expected to be above the national average! 📝🎉 Congratulations to everyone and a special shout-out to the hard-working teachers and school staff who help make this happen. 🙌 Councillor Sabrina Francis, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Young People and Culture, visited William Ellis School and neighbouring Parliament Hill School to congratulate students and staff. She said: “Well done to everyone who received their GCSE results today – it was a pleasure to see so many students celebrating their hard work and fantastic results. You should all be extremely proud of what you have achieved, including the teachers and school staff who work tirelessly to ensure young people feel supported and equipped for the future. Congratulations everyone!” Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eSCTFFDD

I find myself conflicted about sharing a GCSE results day post. With suspensions in England rising by 36% from 578,300 in 2021-22 to 787,000 last year—the highest on record—and permanent exclusions reaching a record high of 9,376 in 2022-23, I can’t help but worry about what today means for the thousands of children who were unable to positively complete their schooling. Is the monofunctional role of school GCSE success overshadowing how we foster inclusion? Especially if we pause to think about how the experience of learning can be both a creative and destructive force... That said, I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved at Westside School. Despite all our students having special educational needs or a history of challenging behavior and poor attendance, 100% earned GCSE grades 1-9, with over 50% achieving grades 4 or higher. These results reflect more than just academic success—they are powerful personal success stories of transformation. We are offering a compelling alternative, proving that positive outcomes are possible through small class sizes, innovative and holistic curriculum adaptations, and a proven system of personalised care.

Fantastic article by Fleur Sexton DL in Education Today magazine! An excellent initiative with proven positive results.
157 Southfield School, Kettering Year 11s and 30 staff are now on their way to Whitemoor Lakes Activity & Training Centre in Staffordshire for our annual 4 day revision/activity weekend. This will be the ninth year that we have run this activity and each year, the majority of our students claim that this was one of the most successful activities in boosting their GCSE results in the core subjects. Students also comment on how much fun they had and the lasting memories they created whilst there. As part of our new Academy Trust and our ongoing collaboration with other schools, Kingsthorpe College and Moulton School & Science College will also be sending some of their students on the trip. Have a good time everyone and #ReachYourFullPotential

A controversial and contentious exercise: ranking the elite tier of American private boarding schools. Are the so-called "Elite Eight" the pinnacle or are there other schools that should be considered above them... ELITE EIGHT: THE TOP-TIER OF AMERICA’S ELITE BOARDING SCHOOLS The Elite Eight is a an informal moniker applied to a group of highly-selective boarding schools in the United States that are considered to be the most exclusive schools in the country. Whilst many of the schools are known to consider one another as equals and often collaborate with one another with respect to common admissions practices or their participation in formal associations (such as the Eight Schools Association – with which the term is sometimes erroneously associated, or the Ten Schools Admission Organization), the Elite Eight is not an official body. Nonetheless, it is a common term used by prospective pupils and admissions agents assisting families with attaining places to such elite prep schools. Are there other schools which eclipse these eight or should, at the very least, be considered peer schools? ------ #ivyleague #education #academia #selective #elite #america #unitedstates #private #privateschool #highschool #eliteeight #prepschool #secondaryschool #boardingschool

🚨It’s Results Day for GCSEs and equivalent qualifications today – what do we know about the results so far? Grades in England are very similar to last year, with Wales and Northern Ireland seeing drops as they complete their return to pre-pandemic grading. In England, the gap in top grades (grade 7 and above) between private and state schools has increased compared to last year, from 28.2 percentage points to 29 percentage points. Grammar schools similarly saw bigger rises than non-selective schools. The regional attainment gap also remains stubbornly persistent. The gap in top grades (7 and above) between London and the North East is virtually unchanged. However, the gap in pass grades (4 and above) between London and West Midlands has increased from 8.7pp in 2023 to 9.4pp in 2024. Every young person receiving their results today should be proud of their hard work and achievements, particularly given the level of disruption they’ve faced since year 7. 👏 Read our full analysis of the data ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/emHfwBCb

👑King’s Speech 2024: What’s in it for schools? King Charles III gave a speech last week, setting out the legislative priorities for the government over the next year-long session. Here are some of the things the proposed laws are set to achieve: ✅Bringing trusts into the inspection system and enable direct intervention for underperforming schools and trusts; ✅Require all schools to teach the national curriculum; ✅Free breakfast clubs in every primary school; ✅Limit the number of branded items of uniform and PE kits that a school can require; ✅Require all schools to cooperate with the LAs on school admissions, SEND inclusion and place planning and more..... According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, by 2031, 68 percent of the jobs in #Connecticut will require postsecondary education and/or training, with 42 percent of those jobs specifically requiring a bachelors or masters degree. I spoke about this, and our increasing enrollment, with Melissa Sheketoff of WICC. I always appreciate her making time to talk about #highereducation! As the economy cools, higher ed will become even more important. Don’t let the narrative stick that we don’t need higher ed! Connecticut State Colleges & Universities and its institutions make up our state’s primary talent engine for #economicdevelopment, #socialmobility, and #communityimpact. But it’s not just about #jobs: higher ed makes people and society better. So all of us—#faculty, #staff, #students, everyone who has benefited from higher ed—let’s stand up and brag about the work we do. We serve and help millions of people every day. At CSCU we take that responsibility seriously and we could not be more proud.

🚨 "Anyone can do admissions." 🚨 I’ve heard this statement many times, and it couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a common generalization made by those who’ve never had to step into the role. From knowing the cafeteria menus and uniforms, to understanding bus schedules, after-school activities, and the entire academic program, admissions professionals need a comprehensive grasp of how everything runs. It's a role that demands precision, in-depth knowledge, and strong communication—a crucial responsibility that directly impacts the school’s image and the experience of new students and families. Let’s give the admissions team the credit they deserve! 👉 If you're in education, take a moment to thank your admissions team today!
