Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Britton joined a major policy announcement at the iconic Pinewood Group Limited earlier this morning, where the Prime Minster delivered his 'Plan for Change' speech. Paul said: "The announcement of 150 infrastructure projects stood out, and we will be lobbying to make the case for Western Rail Access to Heathrow and other digital, road and rail improvements. Hitting these milestones is going to require outstanding execution to make change happen and this is where it has faltered in the past." Bellway Strategic Land has won the backing of councillors in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead for a development which will provide 80 new affordable homes to Cookham. 🏘 The council’s development control committee resolved to approve plans for a total of 200 homes across two separate applications for the site west of Cannondown Road, subject to planning agreements being finalised. The second stop on Anglian Water’s AMP8 engagement tour was Greater Lincolnshire this week and I had the privilege of supporting them again in presenting the challenges this will present in terms of planning and discussing the potential solutions. The water supply challenge for this part of the region is complex and unique: 🌽 81% of the area is farmed providing 10% of England’s farming output 🛠️ 50 million litres of non-potable water is supplied to industry on the Humber Bank 📈 12% predicted population growth by 2050 💧 41% less water available in 2050 due to climate change, abstraction reductions and population growth It makes for stark reading! £1 billion of focused investment is therefore planned over the next AMP period which will translate to a 482% increase in planning application submissions to the Greater Lincolnshire LPAs over the next 5 years. Collaboration and a thorough understanding of resource requirements is going to be the key to successfully delivering Anglian Water’s largest ever capital infrastructure programme.

Yesterday’s NLA #LREF conference was an event full of optimism. The event at the Guildhall in the City of London discussed the future of the built environment under the new Government. Mark Allan, chief executive of Landsec, pointed to the potential of brownfield regeneration and the need for higher-density housing to unlock opportunities in the sector.   Affordable housing was a major focus, with Fiona Fletcher Smith, chief executive of L&Q, highlighting the pressing need for it in London, where the average salary required to rent a home is now £76,000. Industry leaders called for more government intervention, as the private sector alone cannot sustain affordable housing development amidst high costs and supply chain challenges.   Discussions about the planning system were also front of mind, with the NPPF consultation now closed. There was an emphasis on the need for planning reform.
