Day 2 at Rescue 1122 Emergency Training Summer Camp! I'm excited to share my learnings from the second day of the Rescue 1122 Emergency Training Summer Camp here in Pakistan! 1. Swimming Started with the basics of swimming, practicing with safety jackets and even trying without them (though it was a bit challenging for a first-timer like me!). Our instructor taught us in less deep water, ensuring an easy and safe learning experience. Pleased to have overcome my initial hesitation and can't wait to continue improving my swimming skills! 2. Pakistan Life Saving Program (PLSP) The highlight of the day was learning about the Pakistan Life Saving Program (PLSP), which covered critical life-saving techniques: CPR Steps: a. Ensure safety of your own first before approaching the victim.Approach the patient and shake their shoulders to check for responsiveness b. Ask the patient if they're okay and check for chest movement to assess breathing c. Call Rescue 1122 (Pakistan's emergency number) for assistance d. Check the patient's breath by listening for 5-10 seconds e. Start CPR by pressing the chest at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute f. Focus on the patient's body and stop pressing if breathing resumes Bleeding Control Steps: a. Approach the victim and ask about the injured part b. Introduce yourself and ask permission to assist b. Examine the wound and apply a clean bandage or cloth to control bleeding c. Press firmly to control bleeding, especially for deep wounds Understanding these crucial steps may empower anyone to respond confidently in emergency situations. I'm grateful for the expert guidance and hands-on training provided by our instructors. Looking forward to the next challenge! The Importance of Water Safety Education Water activities like swimming, boating, and fishing are extremely popular, especially during the summer months. However, they also come with inherent risks that are often overlooked. Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death, with thousands of preventable fatalities occurring each year. This is why water safety education is so crucial. Whether at the pool, beach, lake, or river, everyone should understand basic water safety principles. Key lessons include supervision (never swim alone), using proper flotation devices, being able to identify dangers like rip currents, and knowing what to do in an emergency situation. Formal swimming lessons can teach life-saving skills like treading water and different strokes. Unfortunately, many people overestimate their abilities in the water. This overconfidence, combined with a lack of water safety knowledge, is a dangerous mix. By prioritizing water safety education from a young age, we can help reduce tragic and preventable drowning incidents. Water safety courses should be widely available and incentivized, whether through schools, community centers, or other local programs. A small investment of time can yield tremendous dividends by empowering people to safely enjoy our world's beautiful bodies of water. After all, an awareness of risks and preventative measures is the key to turning a potential hazard into an amazing recreational experience.

☀️ As summer is here, we encourage employers to discuss the importance of water safety with all workers. According to Royal Life Saving Australia, in order to enjoy the water safely it is important to: 🏊know your swimming abilities – if you are not a confident swimmer, don’t go in the water 🌊know the conditions – ask a local before entering the water and be aware of sandbars, rips, currents, underwater debris and changing weather 🦺wear a lifejacket – when boating and fishing ⛱️swim at a patrolled beach - between the red and yellow flags 🚫avoid alcohol around the water – it is the one of the biggest risk factors for drowning among adults 👨👩👧👦 avoid swimming alone – don’t think ‘it won’t happen to me’. ☎️Anyone whose life is at risk should call triple zero (000) immediately. Employers can contact the service line to report critical incidents, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on (1800 515 131). More information about water safety can be found on the Royal Life Saving Australia website: https://lnkd.in/gHaxjVbu.
