Today’s Safety Message talks about bike safety. In a contest between a bus and a bicycle, the bus always wins. Some things to remember when sharing the roadway with bicyclists: • Give them space - leave at least three feet of space between your vehicle and a cyclist when passing. • Pass slowly and carefully - only pass a cyclist when it's safe. Try to avoid passing when turning, at a curve, or if there's oncoming traffic. • Yield - yield to cyclists at intersections if they have the right of way. • Be aware - look for cyclists using hand signals to communicate their next move. Be especially careful when turning, as cyclists ride on the right side of the road and you might not see them. And remember, it’s not worth challenging a bicyclist, give them their space.

Re-thinking Roads: 'Going Dutch'? It's good news indeed to hear that collisions and casualties on 20mph and 30mph roads have fallen by almost a quarter compared to the same period in 2023, the lowest recorded outside of the pandemic when our roads went quiet practically overnight. https://lnkd.in/ee5BxUhj However the opening of a new Dutch-style roundabout in Sheffield has been delayed, with some in the city raising concerns that it may be 'confusing'. So, a bit like driving around some of our existing roundabouts then. "The new road layout is designed to give priority to pedestrians and cyclists over motor vehicles. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said similar roundabouts in the Netherlands had reduced serious incidents by about 46%". If we want to encourage people to leave their cars at home, then the alternatives need to be much safer, more practicable, affordable and enjoyable. I wonder if we'll see any 'Dutch-style' roundabouts, or even Dutch style transport planning, being rolled out across Cymru any time soon 🤔

“Take care of customers and employees first, and everything else will follow.” That was the vision and the values of the Enterprise car rental founder Jack Taylor. Yet, we experienced (like the thousands of other customers) the real-life experience of the infamous Seinfeld episode. You can take the reservation you just didn't 'hold' the reservation and that is the most important part. 1) Why does the online booking system allow you to reserve a vehicle if there are no vehicles in inventory? (2) why does a call to the local Enterprise get re-routed to an international call center - and why do they assure you that there is a car in inventory? So many #brandfails here. No wonder there are more innovative car rental options these days Turo etc.
