The document is supplementary to document MEPC 82/6/27 (INTERCARGO).

During fire testing in the new Učka tunnel tube (5.634 m), it took almost 15 minutes for smoke to reach the outside after smoke removal was initiated using the longitudinal ventilation system at velocities of around 3,5 m/s. The fire test was conducted roughly halfway along the tunnel. By the time the smoke exited, it had cooled down and continued to flow longitudinally instead of rising upward. In the video, you can see just how much smoke a 3,5 MW fire produces (roughly equivalent to a single vehicle fire). To increase smoke production, water was added to the gas mixture during the test, in accordance with RVS 09.02.31. Now, imagine if there was an adjacent tunnel. In the event of a fire, the smoke could pose a risk to passengers in the neighboring tube, so special measures would be needed to prevent smoke from entering the adjacent tunnel.
