Vicarious learning! “Mummy, if the teacher can make other children stop laughing at someone who gives a wrong answer, then I’d be able to answer in class.” “Did someone laugh at you?” “No... but I see them laugh when others give wrong answers.” How can we create safe spaces where children feel free to ask, answer, and express themselves without fear of ridicule? - Listen carefully to everyone. Children often pick up on adults’ nonverbal cues. If we are attentive to each question and answer in class, children are more likely to follow suit. - Ask the right questions—those that don’t have wrong answers! - Foster and practice mutual respect. Some of the best lessons in this can be drawn from To Sir, With Love. #safespaces

Educating children about school values and cultures is essential to fostering a positive learning environment and helping them develop into respectful, responsible, and culturally aware individuals. Two major strategies to effectively teach these principles are; 1. Lead by example Children learn values and behaviours by observing adults. Teachers and staff should model the values the school promotes, such as kindness, respect, honesty, hard work, and inclusivity. 2. Use Visual Reminders like; >Posters in hallways and classrooms. >Bulletin boards with student-created content. >School mascots or slogans that reflect core values. This aids the learners to effectively understand their importance and carry them into their communities, #Mentoringyoungleadersfromschools.

Raising a confident child and teaching eye contact doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be respectful. And saying no to a teacher because they don’t want to do something is disrespectful. Life is hard and they will have to do hard things… even when they don’t love it. So that is a slippery slope. I think I get your point but with that teaching confidence and respect you should also teach respect for others and themselves. I rather teach them confidence and right from wrong and to stand up and speak up when something is wrong. Don’t let people push you around especially if it’s dangerous to you or inappropriate. #ParentingTips #RaiseStrongKids #LifeLessons #IndependentKids #ParentingAdvice #TeachThemRight #SmartParenting #EmpowerYourKids #WiseParenting

🌍 World – Let’s Stop Shouting Day: Fostering Peaceful Schools November 6th, marks World – Let’s Stop Shouting Day—a timely reminder for schools to prioritise calm, respectful communication. In education, loud reactions can be distressing, especially for students impacted by trauma. Adopting trauma-informed practices helps create safe spaces where students feel understood, valued, and engaged. Quaker schools provide a powerful model: interactions between staff and students are grounded in respect, mindfulness, and equality, making every communication a peaceful one. Tools like restorative justice and peer mediation offer ways for students to resolve conflicts with empathy and accountability, building a culture of respect. Reflecting on this day, schools can: 1. Establish calm-down zones for self-regulation. 2. Conduct silent reflection times. 3. Offer staff training on peaceful communication techniques. When schools choose peaceful communication, we empower students with lifelong skills of empathy and respect. Let’s continue to create environments where every voice feels heard and every interaction builds trust. 🌍✌️ #WorldLetsStopShoutingDay #PeacefulSchools #TraumaInformed
