September is Hunger Action Month, an opportunity to raise awareness about the large—and growing—food insecurity crisis in the United States. Did you know that more than 44 million Americans face hunger, including 1 in 5 children? Check out this opportunity to take action: ➡️ Nosh Delivers! works to address a growing need for food access for those on Long Island's North Shore. They need help crafting their case for support and impact language, which will play a crucial role in securing funding and support from grantors. Do you have the messaging skills to help? Check out the project here: https://bit.ly/3AVa093 There are many more projects working to address hunger and dozens of other causes at Taprootplus.org. #hungeractionmonth #messaging #skilledvolunteer #development #communications #volunteer

Every family should be able to access the programs that can help them thrive. But the reality is that some families face more barriers to getting the support they need. That’s why we’re so proud to partner with Generations United in their mission of supporting grandfamilies—families in which children are raised by relatives other than their parents, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or siblings—who face increased risks of food insecurity. Learn how Generations United is working to change policies and ensure healthy food access for every family ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eRrCTv56

Hey! There are several impactful projects you could consider starting to make a difference in your society. Here are a few ideas: 1. Community Clean-Up Campaign: Organize a clean-up event in your neighborhood or a public space to promote environmental cleanliness and raise awareness about waste management. 2. Education Initiatives: Start a tutoring program for underprivileged children or organize workshops to teach valuable skills like financial literacy or computer basics. 3. Food Drive or Community Kitchen: Collect donations and distribute food to those in need, or set up a community kitchen to provide meals for the homeless or low-income families. 4. Green Initiatives: Launch a tree-planting campaign, promote recycling in your community, or educate others about sustainable living practices. 5. Health and Wellness Programs: Organize health fairs, fitness classes, or mental health awareness campaigns to promote overall well-being in your community. 6. Support for Elderly or Vulnerable Groups: Create a program to visit and assist elderly individuals, or provide support for vulnerable populations such as refugees or people with disabilities.

As we close another impactful year at Backpack Buddies, I’m excited to share highlights from our 2023/2024 annual impact report. I’d love you to read the stories of goodness and hope. For the first time in our history, we found ourselves with an unprecedented waitlist of over 1000 kids. The rising rent and food costs of the past few years continued, and many more families needed our help. We were humbled by the many BC families who trust us to provide consistent, stigma-free support and we couldn’t let them down. How did we solve this? We teamed up with corporate donors, partnered with schools, leveraged purchasing power - all to feed hungry kids. I’m so proud of the significant strides we’ve made with the support of our community. TOGETHER - We are Putting Hope Back on the Table. This year, we reached 6,100 kids in 360 schools across 73 communities in BC, who have full bellies each weekend. I share a grateful thanks to all our supporters who helped us reach kids in BC. But our work is far from over. The need remains urgent. Our waitlist is growing, and hunger doesn’t take the weekend off. Child hunger isn’t just a distant problem; it’s a pressing issue right here in British Columbia. One in seven BC kids - 126,120 children - live in poverty. For families who depend on school meal programs for food, the weekends bring anxiety, stress and uncertainty about where the next meal will come from. In communities across our province, kids are grappling with hunger, impacting not only their health, but also their ability to learn, grow and dream. Interested in learning more about how we can get one step closer to ensuring no BC child goes hungry? I’d love to connect. #HungerHeroes #EndChildHunger # #ImpactReport #Backpack Buddies

This past Tuesday was Hunger Action Day! CEO Scott Rumpsa joined The Morning Mix on Fox 17 to share how neighbors like you can help nourish our neighbors and build a stronger, healthier communtiy. Hunger doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Families who struggle to access the food they need often face other challenges, and a setback in one area creates a ripple effect across systems: education, childcare, employment, housing, healthcare, food, finances, and transportation. Complex problems require holistic solutions - that’s why we combine healthy food access, resource navigation, financial empowerment, and street outreach to build a community where all of our neighbors have what they need to thrive, and no one faces challenges alone. It takes a community, working together, to nourish our neighbors! Act with Action House by volunteering, hosting a drive, or donating to support our work! This year, a record 101 youth organizations participated in the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation’s Ignite the Spirit program. Through this program, FFA, 4-H and other youth-based organizations receive $500 and 4 cases of pork loin to create their own service project to address hunger and food insecurity in their community. Organizations pick up the pork loins at Operation Christmas Meal stops throughout the month of December and then work with other hunger-fighting organizations in their area to prepare their project. Examples of projects include community meals and holiday meal boxes. Groups were spread across the whole state, with projects occurring in 47 counties.
