Remember the three golden rules of municipal meetings: 1. Most change is slow. If you want to improve your high school, start when your kid is in kindergarten. 2. Get involved in your community. If a town is trying to implement a program or wants to build a project, your position will carry much more credibility if you’ve shown interest beforehand or if you’ve already done unglamorous community work. 3. The people who habitually speak at public meetings ARE NOT a representative sample of your neighbors. They are people with strong opinions and a motive to voice them. Don't assume everyone - or anyone - agrees with them. Have you ever been to a municipal meeting? What was your takeaway?

In this season of giving, another way your company can give is to place an ad on your local church bulletin. It's a win-win! We never talk about our homes as places attached to our work. This is my town. It doesn't look very nice here does it? A bus station pic fails to give gravitas and a year or so ago, the building on the right was empty space. Poole was where I was born and as adults, we start to see our homes through a different lens. For me, I treat home as my playground. We test out ideas, we see what works, we invite people to join in (sea swim anyone?). When your work becomes a reflection of where you live, it creates impact. We have 200 people heading down at the end of April for Creator Day. It's on the left side at Lighthouse - Arts and Entertainment | Poole and on the right is FOUNDRY. We have Failed Nights there the evening before the event to welcome everyone. The idea is to turn this part of Poole into a 'precinct' for Creator Day. When you embody what you advocate in your own space, vocalising connections and activities, you create belonging within the town (or city) you are part of. This strength is pivotal for talent retention, attractiveness to others, and overall economic health within the community. Online visibility is still important, but grounding your work in your local landscape is a powerful strategy.
