Not sure if you have read any of my story this week here, but this is quite interesting....
At two separate occasions during my journey of recovering from Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), there were times when my hands were losing skin, and no it was not leper like. 🙂 Well, maybe it was...it was pretty bad.
The first time was just after the completion of the intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment while I was still in the hospital. This hand skin loss only went on for 2 days.
The second time was about 2 months later when the peeling of the skin began again, layer after layer, deeper than the first time. But at this iteration it was weird - kind of speaking to me... like the shedding of old burdens and the unveiling of newfound strength.
For a month straight, my hands embarked on a silent journey of metamorphosis per se, shedding the remnants of a battle fought internally and externally.
At first, it was uncomfortable to deal with and to look at, the way my skin sloughed away, revealing tender flesh beneath. But in the midst of the strange and the embarrassing, there came a quiet acceptance, a recognition of the newness in transformation.
Each peel became a symbol of rebirth, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. As I watched the old give way to the new, I found peace in the notion of starting afresh, of embracing the unfamiliar with open arms. Heck, I was still trying to learn how to walk🚶♂️again.
In those moments, my hands became more than mere appendages; they became the indicators of hope, reminders that even in the face of adversity, there exists the possibility of renewal. This was a kind of like a confirmation of the faith within.
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that this happened twice, the first time was so close to the beginning recovery phase that I didn't recognize really anything, I did not accept what had happened to me - what had almost killed me; it wasn't until later that I saw what was being done - a new chapter or better yet, a new book.
