Hello My Name is Kirsty I am an Art & design student level 3 I do photography as a side hobby and study full time
T-level drop-outs switch to courses due for axe https://lnkd.in/eBe9NfrZ Well this is not looking good at all and I feel quite a shamed of what the government is doing, to these level 3 course is just not on at all because we need these level 3 and level 2 vocational courses because they are vital for people that are neurodiverse but also for people who don't want to do A levels, but the biggest question is have industries asked for T levels or has someone just woken up one morning and had the bright idea of let's great these T- levels and slows get rid of vocational courses, because this is becoming more and more concerning everytime and I do think, it is about that everyone in the creative industry and in other industries too make noise because we all need to stand up and say this is not going to work and we need to keep the vocational courses because they help people that struggle academically subjects get to university and not just that helps people that are neurodiverse too so please make as much noise as possible about this and also write to your local MP too because we can loose vocational courses because they are vital to students and young people too. thankyou

I'm quoted in the Times Higher Education article on behalf of GuildHE about the OfS short-courses trial and the implications for the Government's lifelong learning entitlement policy: “However, the OfS short-course trial demonstrates that, while universities are keen to offer these courses, there is much more work to do to generate demand and trust in short courses,” he said. “To make the LLE successful, the DfE and universities and colleges will need to clearly communicate the value and benefit of bite-sized chunks of learning to both potential students and also employers.” https://lnkd.in/ejpz4gSi #highereducation #highered #universities #lifelonglearning

A bit of an odd esfa update this week… odd because it puts information about Apprentices under the accountability information for colleges. No mention that it would also affect ITPs, just presumed. UPDATE: all reference to this were later removed leaving it as a standalone comment about off the job… (just removed no acknowledgement of the error) And secondly it’s retrospective. Referring you to changes made in October 2023, maybe they forgot to tell anyone at the time, implying it’s new updates. Anyway. Point 3. Refresh your training plan and there is a very basic off the job calculator now available. Enjoy. Note the training plan is not mandatory if you are complying with the funding rules for a training plan (Para 86)

What does the Conservative manifesto mean for lifelong learning in the UK? The Conservatives launched their 2024 election manifesto yesterday stating that education is, “the closest thing we have to a silver bullet”. We have highlighted some key proposals which are in line with the LEI’s Manifesto for Skills. 💡 People ✨ The Conservatives will deliver the Lifelong Learning Entitlement which will allow adults to train, retrain, and upskill flexibly. From 2025, adults will be able to apply for loans to cover new qualifications. The LEI supports the introduction of the LLE. However, we have urged for this to include much smaller units of learning than is currently planned and to consider a funding mechanism that would allow employer, employee and state to contribute to a lifelong education fund. Additionally, the Manifesto outlines a plan to expand adult skills programmes, such as Skills Bootcamps, to meet skills shortages. Thought should be given to extending eligibility for 16–18-year-olds who are in need of sector-specific employability skills that bootcamps offer. We call for the introduction of sectoral/subject-specific Lifelong Learning Pathways (LLPs), initially for all post-16 learning at levels 1–8. 💡 Productivity ✨ There are plans to add 100,000 apprenticeships in England yearly by the end of the next Parliament. The extra investment will rise to an additional £886m per annum by 2029/30, but it remains unclear how much of the money raised by the Apprenticeship Levy will be retained by Treasury rather than allocated to the Apprenticeship Budget. Narrowing this gap must be a priority for adequately supporting the skills and apprenticeships sector. A further essential step is the urgent need to adjust apprenticeship funding bands that haven't increased since before the period of high inflation. If individual apprenticeship standards can't be delivered economically by providers, then increasing the total apprenticeship budget will make little difference...
