👏On July 3, the Opening Ceremony and Partner Co-Creation Conference for LONGi's Global Distributed PV R&D Centre was held in Jiaxing, China. The commissioning of the centre marks not only a milestone achievement in LONGi's strategy of "enhancing product power", but also an important step forward in further constructing the BC ecosystem. 🌏The centre in the first phrase covers a total area of 20,000 square metres and is divided into four zones, which host the central test line, experiments for applied materials and product reliability, a joint innovation space, offices for R&D personnel, and other functionalities. By the end of 2024, more than 300 highly educated talents specialising in product R&D will have joined the centre, collaborating on product development for various distributed application scenarios. 😊Mr Zhong Baoshen, Chairman of LONGi, stated: "The distributed PV market constitutes roughly 50% of the entire market and represents a significant scenario for PV development, as well as a market harbouring boundless imaginative potential. Onsemi Enhances Power Modules to Boost Solar Energy Efficiency Onsemi has unveiled upgraded F5BP Power Integrated Modules (PIM), combining silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies to significantly improve power density and efficiency in utility-scale solar inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The upgraded modules raise power ratings from 300 kW to 350 kW, delivering efficiency gains that could save up to 2 MW per hour in solar generation facilities—enough to power 700 homes. For every gigawatt of installed capacity, these improvements equate to operating savings of $250,000 per year, underscoring the economic benefits of enhanced solar efficiency. Key to this advancement are the integrated high-voltage IGBTs and EliteSiC diodes, which minimize switching losses and voltage flicker, providing more stable and reliable power conversion. Solar energy is becoming a preferred renewable power source as it offers a favorable levelized cost of energy. To integrate solar power with the grid, solar inverters must convert DC from solar arrays to AC at high voltages and with maximum efficiency. Onsemi's upgraded power modules, which can be configured for either boost or inverter circuits, address this need by offering improved thermal resistance and greater reliability. By combining well-established IGBT technology with cutting-edge SiC devices, Onsemi is driving the efficiency of solar power generation forward. LG Energy Solution has garnered intense industry attention with its successful development of a groundbreaking technology that dramatically enhances the performance of lithium metal batteries, in collaboration with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (한국과학기술원(KAIST)). On the 7th, the joint research team announced their success in developing a core technology for lithium metal batteries, which can improve efficiency by about 50% compared to lithium-ion batteries, and significantly enhance charge/discharge efficiency and overall battery life. Notably, this research paper, a culmination of two years of research by the Frontier Research Laboratory (FRL), established by both LG Energy Solution and KAIST in 2021, has been published in 'Nature Energy,' a leading academic journal in the energy field, reaffirming the technical prowess of LG Energy Solution🌟 Conventional lithium-metal batteries have their issues, such as the formation of dendrite on the anode surface and continuous corrosion caused by the liquid electrolyte. However, to resolve these challenges, LG Energy Solution and KAIST came together to introduce, for the first time, the effects and operational methods of the ‘borate and pyran combination.’ The liquid electrolyte applied by the joint research team reconstructs the solid electrolyte layer, formed on the lithium metal anode surface during charging and discharging, into a dense structure of a few nanometers thick. This pioneering approach minimizes corrosion between the electrolyte and the lithium metal anode. Not only does this enhance the charging and discharging efficiency of the lithium metal battery, but it also increases the energy density to the extent that a single charge can enable a driving range of up to 900 km (560 miles)🚘 “By resolving conventional lithium-metal batteries’ biggest issue in collaboration with KAIST, LG Energy Solution is a step closer to its realization,” stated geunchang chung, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Energy Solution’s Future Technology Center. Yesterday I had the honor of exchanging thoughts with one of solar industry's most estemeed and experienced leaders, professor Cao Renxian, Chairman of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. It was also a great opportunity to reflect back on our path with Sungrow. When we started in 2020, Sungrow was significantly less popular in Europe than many other inverter brands. At the same time, Menlo Electric was just a start-up - we had little to offer but a strong #desire to prove our worth by championing Sungrow. It took a leap of faith from both sides for this cooperation to take off. But take off it did 🛫 Fast forward 3.5 years and we feel very priviledged to be recognized as one of Sungrow's largest distributors and key partners across Europe, Middle East, Africa and the US. This partnership, or 关系, is a strong foundation that we will continue to build on going forward! Thank you Meng Yang, JinDong Lewis LI, Mario Pollak and Adam Hrycz for making this meeting happen.
