📸 As many of us feel the winter chill around the world....what a great throwback picture of a cablelay vessel tow through icy winter waters, from a few years' back 📸 Longitude provided vessel design and conversion services to support the conversion of this cablelay vessel. It was then towed from Rostock, Germany to Pikkala, Finland, accompanied by an icebreaker to support its safe passage through the icy waters. Longitude's sister company, then known as London Offshore Consultants (LOC), and now the energy and marine consultants, ABL - also supported the project with a tow approval and eCMID inspection. A great and enduring example of our #collaboration with one another to drive safety in #EnergyandOceans. Innovation Meets Power: SSCV Thialf Gets an Upgrade!💪 Heerema Marine Contractors’ legendary SSCV Thialf —take on new heights (and weights)! Last week, the vessel was equipped with Huisman’s Motion-Compensated Pile Gripper Frame at the Port of Rotterdam - This technology allows the Thialf to handle monopiles up to 12.5m in diameter, 115m in length, and a staggering 3,200 metric tons! 🚢 Did You Know? 📌 SSCV Thialf, one of the largest crane vessels in the world, boasts a lifting capacity of 14,200 metric tons with its dual cranes. 📌With its two 95-meter cranes towering above the ocean, the Thialf has been instrumental in some of the world’s most complex offshore projects. 💡 What’s New? The Motion-Compensated Gripper is positioned on the Thialf’s side, enabling safer and more precise monopile installation—even in challenging sea conditions. This marks a significant step forward for offshore wind and other energy projects requiring large-scale infrastructure. 👏Congratulations to Heerema Marine Contractors and Huisman for this monumental achievement! Here’s to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible offshore! #engineeringexcellence #SSCVThialf #offshoreinnovation #heavylifting #renewableenergy #manup

Last week, Bibby Marine announced a major milestone in its journey toward net-zero emissions: the signing of an agreement with ARMON SHIPYARDS to build the pioneering Electric Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (eCSOV). As the appointed Ship Design firm, we are responsible for the design and basic engineering development of this groundbreaking vessel. The eCSOV will feature the Seaplace Design SEA-1629 hull, a high-performance design specifically engineered to ensure operability and safety when approaching offshore wind platforms, even in the harshest conditions. The initial phase of this design process, carried out in 2024, culminated in a model test campaign at Centrum Techniki Okretowej S.A. in Gdańsk, Poland, last summer. The resistance and seakeeping tests validated the hull’s exceptional performance, confirming its readiness to meet the challenges of offshore operations and further reinforcing the innovative capabilities of this vessel. The ship is the first vessel of its kind, able to operate entirely in full-electric mode, marking a milestone in sustainable offshore wind operations. With advanced battery systems, dual-fuel methanol engines, and cutting-edge technologies, it is designed for cleaner, smarter, and more efficient performance, supporting the transition to net-zero emissions. At Seaplace, we are proud to support Bibby Marine in this endeavor, helping to shape the future of sustainable offshore operations. We look forward to seeing this design come to life and paving the way for the next generation of sustainable offshore vessel! #shipdesign #shipbuilding #offshorewind #navalarchitects #maritime #innovation #netzero #sov

Modelling the installation of #offshorewind projects in different parts of the world, we get to see the varied metocean conditions installers have to compete with. I personally find it fascinating how much it changes in between countries and regions, and the dramatic impact it has on cost and duration. So to start the week I thought I'd put out a little quiz...can you guess which chart represents the East coast of Scotland? The charts show, for three different countries, the modelled installation durations using #ForeCoastMarine, if the installation were to start on different months of the year. The blue and orange bars represent two different installation strategies with jack up barges or heavy lift vessels. I could not get this image in a poll, so if you want a guess and are feeling confident put your answer in the comments, and have a great week. From the ForeCoast Marine team at JBA Consutling.
