EST-Floattech | Energy Storage Solutions will provide a battery system for the purpose-built Electric-Landing Utility Vessel (E-LUV) to be built at COASTAL WORKBOATS new yard in Stornoway. This collaboration is realized due to Coastal Workboats receiving a £6 million (€7 million) grant to demonstrate the UK’s first commercial electric workboat and charging station. The grant, provided by the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC), aims to boost the usage of electric workboats in a commercial environment. “Our attraction to the Octopus Series quite simply comes down to safety. EST-Floattech have produced a class-approved product that brings to market a level of safety unseen previously,” said Luke Parnell, chief engineering manager, Coastal Workboats. ”In particular, the passive nature of the heat dissipation system represents a marked step forward in safety, particularly for an application in the marine environment. Exciting Updates from the World of Carbon Capture and Storage! 🌍 The Northern Pathfinder, the second of four advanced CO₂ transport ships, is now ready for delivery! Designed and built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., this ship will play a critical role in Northern Lights JV's mission to decarbonize Europe. These specialized vessels, including the recently delivered Northern Pioneer, will transport liquefied CO₂ from industrial capture sites across Europe to the Northern Lights receiving terminal in Øygarden, Norway. This marks a significant step towards building the world’s largest dedicated CO₂ shipping fleet, supporting Europe’s ambitious decarbonization goals. The Northern Pathfinder is set to begin its journey to Norway, where it will undergo mechanical commissioning and interface training with the terminal teams. The project’s scale and innovation exemplify how collaboration can drive impactful climate solutions. I am thrilled to see such advancements in sustainable shipping and carbon capture technology. 🌟 Milestone Achieved: First Jetring for Ecowende Delivered! 🌊 We’re excited to share a significant achievement – the delivery of the first of three Jetrings manufactured by GBM Works for the Ecowende project! 🎉 These Jetrings play a vital role in the Vibrojet® system, used to install some of the monopiles of the wind turbines for Ecowende’s ground breaking Hollandse Kust West offshore windfarm. The water jets hosted by the jetring fluidize the soil during vibrohammer installation, thereby reducing pile friction. This means the probability that a conventional impact hammer is needed is also reduced. The ultimate goal is to limit noise during the construction phase and disturb marine life as little as possible. The remaining two rings are on track for delivery in the coming weeks to Sif Group in Roermond. Sif is the manufacturer of the monopiles for Ecowende. Once received, Sif will incorporate the rings seamlessly into the production line of the monopiles. Following integration, the jetting components will undergo rigorous pressure testing by GBM Works at the Sif yard on the Maasvlakte in June 2025.  Albart Barents, Project Manager at GBM Works, reflects: “I am excited to announce the successful delivery of our first Jetring! This significant milestone was made possible by the incredible efforts of our team, subcontractors KCI and KERSTEN and Ecowende. Onward to the next steps in making this project a major success. We’re proud to collaborate with Sif and contribute to Ecowende’s vision of teaming up with nature to build the most environmentally friendly windfarm to date. Together, we’re pushing the boundaries of innovation and sustainability in offshore construction and leading the way for affordable, sustainable and responsible offshore energy.” Joe Haley, Foundation Innovation Lead at Ecowende, adds: “The delivery of the first Jetring is a major step forward for vibrojetting, and the aim of reducing offshore construction noise on our project. It is an exciting start to the year; this is the first of many milestones in 2025! In the latest strides of the BlueBARGE Project, a groundbreaking initiative set on reshaping maritime energy efficiency, a pivotal phase unfolds aboard the Demonstrator Vessel. This phase places a significant focus on scaling and prototyping the innovative BlueBARGE solution, poised to revolutionize the maritime landscape. This comprehensive endeavor encompasses a spectrum of activities, ranging from integrating Power Supply systems to rigorous testing, modularity analysis, and contemplating retrofitting actions for existing vessels. The aim is clear: to not only innovate but to ensure practicality and compatibility with real-world maritime operations. To navigate towards this ambitious objective, it becomes imperative to thoroughly assess the current state of art and technology on an operative vessel. This assessment lays the groundwork for solutions that are not only pioneering but also seamlessly adaptable to the demands of maritime operations.
