Meet the Motivational Interviewing Training Team Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, collaborative, and goal-oriented interview approach that can be highly effective in the child welfare setting, particularly when working with preventive workers. These workers play a vital role in guiding families toward changing behavior. Youth Research Inc. is proud to have an excellent Motivational Interviewing Training Team that brings its expertise and empathetic approach to dedicated professionals at its two-day courses at the OCFS Human Services Training Center in Rensselaer and across New York State. Let's talk toilets. In schools, I suggest that students be allowed to go to the loo in lessons, ONLY IF they put their phone on the teacher's desk on the way out... However, from a welfare perspective, could there be one toilet allocated to be available for lesson-loo and which could be monitored by a member of staff? I only ask because there are so many reasons other than 'the loo' why young people like to get away from lessons.... and so if there is an approachable member of staff, and patterns can be noticed, and the young person gets listened to, maybe, just maybe it would be of benefit....? Nomadic pastoral care? Any thoughts?

Just received my certificate from UK Coaching having completed my Safeguarding and Protecting Children course with my colleagues at Squire Patton Boggs. My 5 key takeaways were: 1, Safeguarding is a preventative measure, so ensure your policies are regularly reviewed to reflect the current climate. 2, Give coaches an opportunity to raise concerns about what gaps need plugging in your safeguarding policies. 3, Establish professional boundaries and ensure that they are known to everyone; athletes, parents and coaches. 4, Ensure coaches speak with each other so if there are clues relating to a safeguarding issue, an important part of the puzzle is not missed. 5, Accept as a coach that you won’t have all the answers, so share your concerns with your welfare officer. Have their number in your phone. #TeamSPB #sport #investigations
