Standing next to Thabo Ngwenya, a colleague who never ceases to inspire, I was struck by his profound words: "Life is lived forward but understood in reverse." This simple yet powerful statement resonates deeply, particularly when considering the complexities of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I). In our journey towards fostering an inclusive workplace at Sanofi, it's essential to remember that the strides we make today will be fully understood and appreciated only in hindsight. Every initiative we undertake, every policy we implement, and every conversation we have about DE&I are all steps forward. These actions, though sometimes challenging, are laying the groundwork for a future where everyone feels valued and included. I hesitated before posting something about International Women’s day. It’s great to celebrate women and their contributions and strengths as well as acknowledging the challenges women still face daily on this journey to true equality. What made me hesitate is because sometimes these days just become a one-off day, with posts about how important women are, how important equality is, how diversity makes companies better.. but then the day after everything returns to normal and no real action is taken. One of Pharmaron’s core cultural values is “Employees Number One” and everyone is valued and respected for the contributions they make to Pharmaron’s incredible growth. A truly supportive environment where everyone is celebrated based on merit, and equality and fairness are just true values which are put into place day after day. I would far rather work for a company like Pharmaron, with leaders and staff who put in the effort daily in creating a safe, inclusive and diverse community. Too often, we ask ourselves what are the ways we can start being a stronger ally. I am on my journey and continue asking myself this question on a daily basis. Found this piece with a check list superbly practical. At Sanofi CHC CEE today, this is even more important we ask ourselves this question and find ways to be ally for our colleagues, as we go through transformation and build one multicultural zone organization. Being deeply curious about each other, understanding our own biases, being humble and emphatetic will enable us to build authetic human relationships. We are in a great situation, as right from the start, we are united by our mission to serve our consumers and make selfcare as simple as it should be. In corporate context I cannot imagine a stronger reason for people spending time together. One Diverse Team. Same Dream.

If you have not yet started to value the importance of diversity inclusion prior to, during and the conclusion of your drug development strategy, now is the team to mobilize with vigor. Don't get left behind or worst don't get stuck in old ways of thinking and preforming. Walk the path towards development of novel treatments, patient first optionality and truly inclusive representation.

#Diversity, #Equity and #Inclusion is about acknowledging that each person brings a distinct perspective, a unique set of experiences and specific talents. It's about recognizing that DE&I fosters creativity, stimulates innovation and, perhaps most importantly, cultivates empathy and understanding in a world often plagued by division and prejudice. Each of us can make a difference by creating environments where everyone is valued, heard, and empowered to thrive. While we all agree that embracing the richness of #diversity can drive innovation, enhance performance, and build stronger teams, observance days such as #WorldCulturalDiversityDay bring this to the forefront. As Claire D'Abreu-Hayling notes, it serves as a reminder for us to value diverse perspectives. Because, let's admit it, it's easier said than done. Days like these remind us of the need to be intentional about observing our own #biases and navigating inner conflicts when we encounter perspectives that differ from our own. Yet, this #introspection is crucial for our personal growth and success. For me, this day is a reminder to ensure that the fairness we seek is something we extend to those around us. And on a side note, to demonstrate the same or higher levels of patience as those we communicate with, especially when we face barriers such as language or technical skills. 😊
