Talk about motivating! Sarah Katherine Sisk
Last night, I had the immense honor of attending the Sunset Parade, at the Marine Corps Memorial, in honor of Senator Ted Budd (R-NC). The Marine Corps’ sunset and evening parades are always beautiful, but I found myself a bit emotional watching last night. Last night, Kayla Haas served as Adjutant of the parade. For those unaware, it is incredibly rare to see a woman in the parade. It’s even more rare to see them leading it, as Adjutant. For generations, little girls saw Marines and had to question whether they could hold their own among the ranks of men. Sure, they could aspire to become a United States Marine, but they didn’t have a visual representation of what they were striving to become - a role model or a hero, if you will. Now, little girls across the country have the chance to SEE that they, too, can become United States Marines. It’s no longer simply a dream. It’s clear as day - they can break through ceilings, they can blaze new trails, and they can lead United States Marines. She did that. #marinecorps #marines #semperfidelis #betheone #washingtondc

Moments of impact. After 29 years in the Navy, W. Perry Bingham has followed the golden rule: treat others like you want to be treated. He has gotten a cross-generational perspective on this through his time of service, supporting his wife with scholarship programs, and now through sitting on the Board of Directors for the Anchor Scholarship Foundation. He is focused on setting up young military people for success and creating a lasting impact as they advance. #NationalVeteransAndMilitaryFamiliesMonth

One of the factors of personal resilience is realistic optimism, or in other words, staying positive about the future but being realistic in planning for it. Former United States Navy vice admiral and aviator James Stockdale (December 23, 1923 – July 5, 2005), who, during the Vietnam War, was held captive as a prisoner of war for over seven years. During this horrific period, Stockdale was repeatedly tortured and had no reason to believe he'd make it out alive. Held in the clutches of the grim reality of his hell world, he found a way to stay alive by embracing both the harshness of his situation with a balance of healthy optimism. Stockdale explained this idea as the following: "You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end — which you can never afford to lose — with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be." In the most simplest explanation of this paradox, it's the idea of hoping for the best, but acknowledging and preparing for the worst. #resilience #optimism #paradox

Black veterans have played a significant role in shaping the trajectory of American history since the nation's inception. Their contributions have been profound and multifaceted, influencing military campaigns, civil rights movements, and societal progress. Understanding the historical numbers of Black soldiers provides a glimpse into the magnitude of their impact. The legacy of Black veterans continued to evolve throughout the 20th century after serving in both the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War. In World War I, over 350,000 Black soldiers served in segregated units, demonstrating valor and resilience in the face of adversity. World War II marked another significant milestone, as over 1.2 million Black soldiers served in various capacities, including the famed Tuskegee Airmen and the 761st Tank Battalion. Their contributions helped secure victory overseas and fueled the momentum for civil rights back home. Today, Black veterans serve honorably in the armed forces, contributing to the nation's defense while advocating for equality and justice. Their enduring legacy serves as a reminder of the invaluable role they have played and continue to play in shaping America's history and identity. “Your New Dawn Awaits” Available 24/7 for Help 📲 702-595-2995 www.firstdawnrecovery.com #firstdawnrecovery #veteranrecovery #veteranrehabilitation #rehabilitationcenter #mentalhealth #veteranmentalhealth #lasvegasrecoverycenter #lasvegasrecovery

📅 On this day, April 19, 1897, Theodore Roosevelt begins his work as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in his remarkable life. 🚢⚓ As Assistant Secretary of the Navy under President William McKinley, Roosevelt made significant contributions to the modernization and expansion of the U.S. Navy. He was a passionate advocate for naval power and foresaw the importance of a strong navy in safeguarding America's interests and projecting its influence on the world stage. During his tenure, Roosevelt initiated reforms to improve the efficiency and readiness of the Navy, advocating for the construction of new battleships and the expansion of the naval fleet. His efforts played a crucial role in preparing the Navy for the challenges of the 20th century, including the Spanish-American War, where the U.S. Navy emerged as a formidable force. However, Roosevelt's time as Assistant Secretary of the Navy was not without controversy. His aggressive advocacy for war with Spain and his role in the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana harbor raised questions about his judgment and leadership. Despite the controversies, Roosevelt's dedication to strengthening the Navy and promoting American power abroad left a lasting impact on U.S. military policy and strategy. Today, we commemorate Theodore Roosevelt's appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and recognize his enduring legacy as a champion of American naval power and national security. #TheodoreRoosevelt #AssistantSecretaryoftheNavy #NavalHistory #MilitaryLeadership #AmericanPower #HistoricalAnniversary #USNavy #TransformationalLeadership

There are three different variations of the National Medal of Honor. Each medal symbolizes the values of Courage, Integrity, Commitment, Sacrifice, Citizenship, and Patriotism. Today, we highlight the special features that make up the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Medal. Laurel & Oak Leaves: Clusters of laurel and oak leaves located on each of the star's five points represent victory and strength. 34 Stars: The 34 stars encircling the insignia are equal to the number of stars on the U.S. Flag in 1862. Each star represents a state, from both Union and Confederate states. Minerva: The Roman Goddess of Wisdom and War, Minerva is depicted warding off a man clutching snakes in his hand, meant to represent discord. The shield in Minerva's right hand is representative of the Union of our States, while the bundle of rods and axe blade in her left is symbolic of authority. The owl perched on her helmet is a symbol of wisdom.

My latest script (a work in progress) is about a daughter's search to "hear her father's voice" decades after he passed. Based on the limited series pilot logline below, what additional information do you want to know first? I welcome any kind of helpful response. "Upon discovering her late veteran father's 500 World War II letters and membership in an exclusive military club, a Niagara Falls woman embarks on a mission to forge a new connection, delving into his challenges, sacrifices, camaraderie, and resilience in a pivotal period of American history."

We need to talk about the Marine’s disturbing lack of diversity. Hope Hodge Seck's recent article, ‘Behind closed doors, Marines struggle with a glaring diversity problem’ in The Washington Post, sheds light on the persistent diversity challenge within the Marine Corps fighter pilots and raises questions about the troubling lack of inclusivity and equal opportunity within military duty. The numbers are stark - Black service members make up less than 1% of approximately 580 Marine Corps fighter pilots. Seck breaks down a recent study on the issue, including its imperative conclusion that the Marine Corps must take aggressive steps to address this imbalance, including removing countless barriers that stand in the way of Black servicemembers and Marine’s top general to act as “chief diversity officer” to use their highly visible position to ensure the branch’s implementation. The path to diversity and inclusion is a continuous journey, but it is one absolutely necessary to trek to someday achieve equality. By taking meaningful steps, our armed forces can ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, has a fair chance to pursue their dreams and serve their nation.
