Someone asked me two days ago, “What’s the difference between a Sales Rep, BDR, and AE?” 🤔 Great question! I thought I’d share my response here and see if there’s anything I missed. Here is a summary: 🔍 Business Development Rep (BDR) Focus: Finding and qualifying new leads. 🕵️♂️ Role: BDRs are the front-line prospectors. They identify potential customers, make initial contact, and build the pipeline. For big businesses, they also explore market trends and forge partnerships to keep the pipeline full. 📞 Sales Representative (Sales Rep) Focus: Converting warm leads into customers. Role: Sales Reps take over once a lead is qualified. They follow up, handle objections, and guide prospects through the sales process to close deals. 💼 Account Executive (AE) Focus: Closing high-value deals and managing key accounts. Role: AEs handle the final stages of sales, deal with complex deals, and manage large accounts. They excel in negotiation and ensuring long-term customer satisfaction. Did I miss anything? 

They say no one does a better job selling your product or service than your CEO or Founder. It makes sense, therefore, that you spend time listening to how she or he conducts phone calls with prospects. As a sales team, we set aside 2 hours per week where we get in a room, armed with a list of relevant prospects, and take turns making and listening to each others’ calls. The entire sales team is in the room, from the most junior salesperson to the Founder. It levels the playing field, creating a healthy and fun form of competition and an opportunity to learn and perfect the way you converse with potential clients.
