What exactly is Affordable Housing? Affordable Housing refers to housing that is no more than 30% of a household’s income. If you are low-income, you can seek help from community organizations for housing. Waitlists for Affordable Housing are long, and some may take even years. If you’re invited to apply, be prepared to provide identification, proof of income, birth certificates of minors, and proof that at least one individual in the household is a legal resident. #JusticeForAll #LegalAid #AccessToJustice #SocialJustice #CommunityService #Empowerment #Advocacy #PolicyChange #SocialChange #LosAngeles #California #AffordableHousing

When I experienced my own bout of long-term unemployment during the economic downturn of 2008/9, like many of you, I never expected to be out of work for so long and face downward mobility for the first time. This experience led me to advocate for older adults in similar situations. But advocacy is only the first step; action is crucial. NUUage is a manifestation of this action step. It’s mission is to offer cost-effective coliving housing with shared amenities and tailored services to assist older adults aging independently on moderate incomes. #Advocacy #RetirementCrisis #NUUageColiving #SharedHousing #CommunityLiving #Affordablehousing #seniors #Coliving

Laura Riley University of California, Berkeley - School of Law "#Homeless #Advocacy [#published2023] #examines #the #role #legal #advocacy #plays #in #preventing #and #ending #homelessness. The book provides a history of homelessness, the current state of it in the United States, context on working with unhoused populations, and analyzes the legal issues they face through a practitioner's lens. With these #topics, #ranging #from #criminalization #of #homelessness #to #employment #barriers #and #affordable #housing, the author provides a resource that #will #encourage and #enable #more #people #to #advocate #on #behalf #of #unhoused #populations and will serve as a #guidepost to advance that advocacy. There are many books on poverty, but this book is different and complementary as it focuses on the unhoused population and the legal challenges unique to them. It is #aimed #at #law #students, #policy #makers, #social #work #students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, #and #individual #activists. It includes #narratives #from #practitioners #and #those #with #lived #experience #of #being #unhoused."

It is slightly challenging #Advocacy #Planning is suggested to transfer the planning function from advisory to determining social values and viewing planning as a social process. Support in planning is a maximalist solidarity process involving comprehensive policies that aim to accommodate the diverse wishes of the people. In this city planning model, the lack of a common language between the city planner and the residents necessitates the creation of #Social #Guidance, fostering #Active #Community discourse for cooperative decision-making. So, #Social #Training has been proposed. It aims to foster a connection and interaction between city planners and the community. Thus, people will be involved in decision-making and assessment of urban planning by people's councils and cooperative groups with city planners (John Friedman). Creating a two-way link in today's society is challenging due to the differing knowledge of city planners and the public. This challenge can be addressed through a two-way training process where there is a continuous exchange between the city planner, working groups, and councils. #Advocacy_ Planning #Social_ Guidance #Social _Training #Active_ Community
