A lot of attention is given to biomanufacturing, really important as the sole purpose of microbial strain development is to manufacture bio based compounds. Let’s focus on how to cost-effectively produce bio based VOLUME products, where the manufacturing cost is of paramount importance. This panel will give great perspectives, and highlight the essential contribution of advanced fermentation technology.

This awarded Master’s thesis entitled “Enhancing Lipid Binder analysis in Historical Objects via Advanced Liquid Chromatography and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry” showed that LC-HRMS based lipid profiling can help to reveal questionable antedating practices occasionally employed on 20th century paintings. Congratulations to Evert Van Hoestenberghe with this great achievement! Abstract: The Industrial Revolution greatly expanded the range of materials available to artists. However, relatively little is known about the actual fate of these new synthetic materials and their long-term stability in a real paint matrix. To improve conservation and combat counterfeit art, a deeper understanding of the composition of these new materials is required. In this work, a highly sensitive NARPLC-HRMS/MS method was developed to determine the composition of two paintings suspected of antedating: Vleermuis (1923) and Abstracte Zee (1923), by Felix De Boeck. Furthermore, a modulation-free and splitless SIC x NARPLC – HRMS method was developed to further improve the analysis these complex samples.
