I don't often attend a webinar and leave feeling inspired... 🙃 But THIS one was different. This fantastic interview featured Michael Corcoran (ex Head of Social for Ryanair during their global social takeover) facilitated by the kind and intelligent Joe Glover (founder of The Marketing Meetup) 👏 My feelings about each are neatly captured in emoji form. Biggest takeaway 👉 "Strategy is also about sacrifice." From my recent experience starting a new Marketing Director role for a SaaS start-up in London (1Breadcrumb), it's been so tempting to jump straight into tactics and ignore strategy - you see things that need doing and you want some quick wins, so you dive headfirst into the "doing" before reviewing the "thinking". Michael summed it up perfectly by saying: "If you're not thinking strategically, you're just contributing to the clutter." And being strategic is not about doing it all. ❌ Being strategic is about having set business goals supported by marketing strategies that can get you there, and ignoring the rest until you have time and resource to address it. ✅ Many hot takes were delivered in this session and much resonance was felt. Definitely give both of these gems a follow!

Growing up by the sea, I dreamt of being a pirate. While I may not have become the notorious captain of a legendary ship (and let's be honest, a certain Mr. Depp might have steered those dreams), I've embarked on an equally thrilling adventure as a CMO. So, here's the treasure map to navigate the first few months at the marketing helm, sans eye patch and parrot. Ahoy mate! Welcome aboard! 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝟏 - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫 ⚓ Conduct thorough audits, taking stock of your marketing arsenal and competitive landscapes. ⚓ Dive into the company's offerings, learning every nook of your ship. ⚓ Spot opportunities for quick wins, like a sharp-eyed sailor spotting land. ⚓ Meet your crew—the marketing team, C-Suite, and stakeholders—to understand every role on deck. ⚓ Gather insights from your passengers—your customers—to ensure their voyage is top-notch. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝟐 - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬 🧭 Set your KPIs, the stars by which you’ll navigate. 🧭 Allocate your budget like a savvy quartermaster ensuring every coin is spent wisely. 🧭 Engage with key stakeholders, drafting allies for the journey ahead. 🧭 Plan how to scale marketing efforts, like preparing for open seas after calm waters. 🧭 Lay out campaigns and customer journeys that will guide you through the marketing maelstrom. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝟑 - 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 🚢Track the ROI like a captain reviews the day's progress. 🚢 Launch campaigns as boldly as setting off cannons to announce your presence. 🚢 Venture into new waters with social media, seeking lands ripe for your flag. 🚢 Analyze results and adjust your strategies as a seasoned captain reads the winds. Remember, as you take charge, it's not about upheaving the existing order. It's about understanding the currents and steering the ship with a steady hand. Earn the trust of your crew by proving your mettle in calm and storm alike. Bon voyage!

Start by creating a culture that attracts top talent. Offer them the tools and autonomy they need to thrive. Encourage innovation and be open to new ideas. A team that feels valued and empowered will always outperform one that’s micromanaged and stifled. Remember, your team is only as strong as its weakest link. 👉 Got tips on building a kick-ass team? I help you get out your own way and build your brand! Together we will remove roadblocks, differeniate your brand, build a growth strategy and finally be your customers first choice.
I used post-its and a big window…And the end result was magnificent! This was a complicated project. There were many ideas, concepts and moving pieces. At first glance it was generic and at real risk of not making it out alive But I knew there was something there… So I didn’t stop until I had organized, refined and simplified all the elements that made this brand’s heart beat! Understanding all the details at this granular level is the starting point of every marketing project. Never skip the research! It’s the only way to pick up a brands unique rhythm, so you can accurately amplify it for the world to hear! If not…you have an excellent chance of sounding a lot like everyone else.
