It's easy to dismiss labor trafficking as something that only happens in "other countries". However, on farms, in factories, in restaurants and hotels, on construction sites, and in the health care industry, labor exploitation and trafficking occur every day right here in Wisconsin. While research conducted by the University of Pennsylvania reports that at least a half-million people in the U.S are currently living in the conditions of forced labor, the issue of labor trafficking is frequently left out of advocacy and awareness campaigns. The Human Trafficking Institute’s 2022 Federal Human Trafficking Report shows U.S. federal prosecutors concentrated 94 percent of trafficking prosecutions on sex trafficking and 6 percent on forced labor cases.6 Conversely, experts have estimated that 70 percent of persons trafficked are in fact for forced labor. We must continue to advocate for the inclusion of labor trafficking in our bipartisan efforts to protect our most vulnerable populations from victimization. #worlddayagainsttraffickinginpersons2024 #labortrafficking #laborrights #nonprofit

The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed annually on July 30 to raise awareness about human trafficking and to promote and protect the rights of trafficking victims. The formal definition of human trafficking used worldwide was established by the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, a United Nations Convention adopted in 2003. The Protocol specifies three primary elements of trafficking in persons: the act, the means, and the purpose. What is done, how it’s done and why it’s done. Traffickers deceive, coerce, threaten, abuse power and use force — the means and methods — to recruit, move, receive, shelter and maintain control of their victims, for the express purpose of exploiting them. Exploitation includes, but is not limited to, the prostitution of others for sex, forced labor or services, slavery or similar practices, servitude, or the removal of organs. Sadly, human trafficking is a global crisis. Trafficking in persons affects nearly every country in the world; no country is immune. The victims of trafficking are building our homes, cleaning our houses, processing our food and making our clothes. They are in our lives. #ProjectMapleLeaf #CourageForFreedom #EradicateChallenge #Preventionbeforeintervention #StopHumanTrafficking #HumanRights #ChildRights #AddYourVoice #NotForSale #FightHumanTrafficking #ChildLivesMatter #SocialJustice #RiseUpForChildren #AntiHumanTrafficking #EndHumanTrafficking #protectchildren #womensrights #ProjectINterclusion #ProjectONtario #knowhumantrafficking #humantrafficking #humantraffickingawareness #antitrafficking #antisextrafficking #endchildtrafficking #fighthumantrafficking #jointhefight #childtrafficking #sextrafficking #listentosurvivors

In a recent decision, the Supreme Court ruled that fining homeless individuals for sleeping outside is constitutional. This complex ruling has sparked significant debate amongst local governments and human rights activists. Activists argue it criminalizes poverty and fails to address the root causes of homelessness. Others believe it upholds city regulations aimed at maintaining public order and cleanliness. This disagreement highlights the complexities of balancing public policy and human rights. The Home of Record Project is steadfast in its commitment to empower #veterans who are experiencing homelessness in #Arizona. That is why HRP will continue to provide solutions for veterans who are met with this paradoxical enforcement. WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS Trafficking in Persons involves the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons through force, fraud, or coercion for the purposes of exploitation in forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. The theme for 2024 in the Fight Against Trafficking in Persons is “Leave no Child Behind”. It focuses on an accelerated action to end child trafficking. Amid overlapping crises such as armed conflicts, pandemics, economic hardships and environmental challenges, children are increasingly vulnerable to trafficking. To effectively combat this scourge, concerted efforts are needed at both national and international levels. Nations across the globe must prioritize child protection, enforce strict laws against traffickers and allocate more resources to combat child trafficking. Civil society organizations also have a vital role to play in raising awareness, provide support services and advocate for policy reforms to tackle this dire situation. At R-DATS, we support organizations, government ministries and agencies, and non-profits globally in implementing policies associated with tackling trafficking in persons. Together, we can work toward a safer world for all children. #RDATS #Data #Survey #EndChildTrafficking #SayNoToHumanTrafficking #WorldDayAgainstTrafficking #EndHumanTrafficking #StopHumanTrafficking #NoToHumanTrafficking #HumanTraffickingAwareness #ProtectOurChildren #LaborTrafficking

👠🔥 Decrim NY is heading to Albany on May 15 to continue lobbying and garnering support for S.4396/A.8506A, the Stop Violence in the Sex Trades Act. We are currently fundraising to support this action in order to cover transportation, meals, and direct support for advocates making their voices heard in the Capitol. Decrim NY is an all-volunteer coalition composed of many groups and individuals working to make the lives of s*x workers in the Empire State safer. We are hoping to have a strong presence in Albany on May 15, and your support would go a long way in making that happen! A few facts about why we need to decriminalize s*x work: -Criminalization perpetuates harm against s*x workers, hindering their access to safety and support. -Discriminatory policing disproportionately affects communities of color in the s*x trade. #SVSTA would provide post-conviction relief. -Prohibitionist models push s*x work into the shadows, endangering workers and survivors of trafficking. For those who are unaware of the Global Modern Slavery Directory (GMSD), it’s a valuable interactive, global map and database that lists organizations and agencies addressing modern slavery and human trafficking. It connects anti-trafficking non-profits, multilateral institutions, government stakeholders, and law enforcement agencies worldwide to combat slavery and trafficking making it an essential prevention resource. By offering a comprehensive platform, the GMSD facilitates collaboration and resource-sharing among various organizations addressing different facets of human trafficking, including sex trafficking, forced labor, and child trafficking. It also helps to identify gaps in services for vulnerable populations and is a useful guide for stakeholders, researchers, potential victims, survivors, and community members seeking to connect with relevant resources and support networks.
