We are thrilled to announce the signing of a significant partnership between the NOVA Hispanic American Chamber - Northern Virginia Hispanic Chamber and Loudoun Economic Development This collaboration marks a pivotal milestone in our mission to foster economic growth and empowerment within our community. Buddy Rizer, Executive Director of Loudoun County Economic Development, and Susana Marino, M.S. President & CEO of NOVAHCC, stood together to celebrate this momentous occasion. This partnership is more than just an agreement; it is a testament to our shared commitment to supporting and elevating Hispanic businesses in Loudoun County. Hispanic residents make up approximately 15% of Loudoun County's population and have significantly contributed to the county's economic vitality. Hispanic-owned businesses now account for over 20% of all new business ventures in the area, spanning diverse industries from technology and professional services to retail and hospitality. Despite their impressive growth, Hispanic businesses still face challenges such as access to capital, networking opportunities, and business development resources. Through this partnership, the Northern Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Loudoun County Economic Development aim to address these challenges head-on by providing Hispanic entrepreneurs with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed. Together, we will enhance access to funding, offer tailored business development programs, and create a robust network of mentors and peers. By promoting inclusivity and diversity in our economic strategies, we are not only driving equity but also fostering economic growth and innovation for the entire community. This Hispanic Heritage Month I’m honoring roots and building futures. As we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, I’m reflecting on the journey that led me to become the founder and CEO of Mezala Consulting , a DEI and Health Equity consulting firm. My Puerto Rican heritage is not just a part of who I am — it's the foundation upon which I've built my life's work, using medicine and medical research as a tool for social justice. I owe so much of my drive and passion to my grandmother, a formidable woman who taught me the true meaning of entrepreneurship, generational wealth, and self-actualization. She instilled in me the belief that we are the architects of our own destiny and that by lifting ourselves up, we also elevate our communities. Did you know that between 2007 and 2018, the number of Latina-owned businesses in the U.S. grew by an astonishing 172%? Today, there are over 2.3 million Latina-owned businesses contributing more than $100 billion to the U.S. economy annually. Despite facing systemic barriers, Latina entrepreneurs are creating jobs, innovating industries, and driving economic growth. "I understood early on the significant contributions of the American Latino business community translated in GDP growth and revenue in the vibrant tapestry of the U.S. economy. Latino-owned businesses have emerged as a dynamic and influential force. These entrepreneurs are creating businesses at over twice the rate of the general U.S. population, as their community necessitates high levels of support, information, training, innovation, and ingenuity. New businesses owned by Latinos accounted for 36% of launches in 2023, according to a new analysis of Census Bureau data. Therefore, we Latinos are a dynamic force of entrepreneurship, workforce, and resiliency. Recent studies have shown that Hispanic-owned businesses contribute significantly to the local economy, and in Northern Virginia alone, over $1.5 billion dollars are generated annually. These businesses not only enhance our economic landscape, but also create thousands of jobs, driving growth and innovation in many industries.
