Mental Health Month - Free Therapy for first 180 Vets! Armed Forces Day On Armed Forces Day, we wish to express immense appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all military personnel and veterans for their unwavering sacrifices! The nature of military service often exposes individuals to high-stress environments, traumatic experiences, and prolonged periods of separation from loved ones. These factors can significantly impact mental well-being, leading to conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety among service members. Moreover, the stigma surrounding mental health within the military culture can act as a barrier to seeking help, exacerbating the problem. For veterans, the transition from military to civilian life can bring its own set of mental health challenges. Reintegrating into civilian society, finding employment, and coping with the aftermath of combat experiences can all contribute to feelings of isolation and distress. Unfortunately, stigma surrounding mental health issues persists even after leaving the service, preventing many veterans from accessing the support and treatment they need. As we honor the dedication and sacrifice of our armed forces on Armed Forces Day, it's crucial to recognize the importance of raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and ensuring that military personnel and veterans receive the care and support they deserve for their mental well-being. Here are two good resources: https://lnkd.in/ekDFb-3i https://lnkd.in/eTyWwy5J We at TheAdamProject.org are here for you. Memorial Day isn’t just BBQs and an extra day off; it’s about honoring those who gave everything for our country. This podcast episode features my veteran husband, Willie, sharing what Memorial Day truly means and why taking care of our veterans’ mental health is crucial. Willie offers tips and insights from his journey. People often mistakenly thank living veterans on this day, but Memorial Day is specifically to honor those who have fallen. Willie emphasizes the importance of educating others about its true purpose. Supporting mental health for veterans and their families is vital. Willie shares his struggle, bouncing between 11 mental health providers over seven years, highlighting the need for awareness and adequate resources. Military families face unique stressors, especially during and after deployments. It’s crucial to recognize these challenges and implement supportive measures. Veterans need to seek help when needed, and managing stress through mindfulness, physical activity, and community support can make a significant difference. This Memorial Day, let’s honor the fallen and reflect on the ongoing challenges faced by military families. Mental health is as important as physical health, and resources are available to help. Today is White Ribbon Day - a day that marks the start of a 16 days of action to stop gender based violence. It specifically focuses on using male allies to stop gender based violence against women and girls. What a great move by AFC Bournemouth football club below, thank you for driving awareness of safety for women getting home in the dark. As a woman I ALWAYS: - lock my car from inside when I drive at night alone - get my keys out early and always check my back before going in my gate - always cross the road or walk in the middle of the road if there's someone walking behind me - always text my friends and check my friends get home OK if travelling alone Kind of a stark reality but would rather do these things and feel safe than not. To all the men out there, some small tips that I'd recommend supporting women at night: - don't walk too close, cross the road to make it clear you are not following - If something doesn't look right, call it out - message female friends, partners, kids etc to make sure they know how they are getting home and made it home safely Appreciate it's a heavy topic but until we eradicate domestic violence fully, our job is not done! No bodies body should be taken advantage of without consent. Period. Full stop.
Sometimes you see a campaign that you just instantly relate too, and this is one that many of us (unfortunately) will... A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the horrible reality women face during the winter. For women, dark nights often mean taking a longer route home, walking without earphones, gripping keys between fingers, and constantly checking over their shoulders. 1 in 2 women feel unsafe walking alone after dark in a public place, compared to 1 out of 5 men. AFC Bournemouth have summed this up perfectly in this 3 minute ad. It's great to see yet another football club having a stance on an important topic, Norwich City Football Club's World Mental Health Day Campaign was a great example of this too. An important watch for everyone👇

As more details concerning the #LasVegas tragedy surface, I again cannot stress enough how important it is that we take care of our returning service members. Available information appears to indicate this was a highly experienced Soldier in crisis - possibly suffering from PTS - that needed help for some time but would not seek it out. Not only is it heartbreaking for his loved ones and unit, but we’re lucky this tragedy didn’t unfold with even more devastating consequences. As a nation, we have a responsibility to take of those who place themselves in harm’s way. A part of that must include cultivating a culture that moves beyond the bravado often associated with combat and kinetic activity in which one of the bravest things you can do is simply ask for help. If you know of someone in need, encourage them to contact their Tri-Care or VA providers or an outside support group like the Wounded Warrior Project, IAVA or VSOs, Blue Star Families, or other trust service member and veterans support organizations:

In an interview with ROI-NJ, our Executive Director, Major General Mark Graham (Retired), shares why consistency is the key to breaking down barriers to mental health support. “Consistency is the key. If someone goes from one military base, where the environment made it safe to get help, then goes to another military base where you don’t get the same feeling – it’s like two steps forward and one step back. If there is a consistent message in the workplace that says if you need help, it is ok to get it – that is a healthy environment whether it is a civilian workplace or a military base. Easy to say but hard to do. Be consistent. We need to make sure everyone is rowing in the same direction.” Read the full article to learn how Vets4Warriors® is building bridges through peer support, one conversation at a time: https://lnkd.in/exWa42j3 #MentalHealth #VeteransSupport #Vets4Warriors #PeerSupport #EndTheStigma #MilitaryFamilies

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marking the start of #16DaysOfActivism, which runs until December 10th. A reminder of the staggering reality: every 10 minutes, a woman is killed by an intimate partner or family member; one in every three women experiences violence in their lifetime; and gender-based violence is the most pervasive human rights violation globally—not just in developing countries, as many conveniently believe. This advertisement from AFC Bournemouth Football Club captures the different experiences of men and women walking home alone at night, exposing the internal monologue of fear, hypervigilance, endlessly looking back, and "what if" scenarios that millions of women around the world unfortunately know all too well. I love that it is not from your "usual suspects." It is bold and always inspiring to see advocacy initiatives coming from "unexpected" allies—commonly loved spaces such as sports—using their power to reach niche audiences, confronting societal issues, and sparking reflection in a different direction. From a marketing standpoint, it's inspiring to see sports being a platform for change. By championing diversity in body types, disabilities, and gender, they are aiming to transcend traditional roles to make advocacy part of the mainstream narrative. Beyond the "match day," we have been witnessing more humanised sports experiences, reaching us via fashion collaborations, social media campaigns, and viral content on platforms such as TikTok, etc. These go outside the squared field, engaging new audiences and shaping a culture where conversations about equality, gender, and mental health are no longer on the "bench." Because advocacy doesn’t just belong in international celebrations, policies, or protests—it lives daily in the stories we tell, the content we create on these common places, and the culture we aim to cultivate.
