Specialist vs. Versatile: Which Chartered Surveyor Path is Right for Your Career? 🏢 In the world of surveying, larger firms often focus on one specific asset class, creating specialists within a team. Smaller companies, however, may encourage surveyors to work across multiple asset types, giving them a broader market understanding. When deciding on your next role, think about what suits your career aspirations: do you want to specialise in one area, or are you looking for variety and a more dynamic career path? #CareerGrowth #RealEstateCareers #SurveyorJobs #JobSearch #RealEstate

I’ve spent a lot of time these past few months reflecting on my 20 year career so far with the same company as I strive to begin and build something new for my future and detail all my achievements. I began to realise that considering where I started from so much of my career has been an achievement. Here are some of those reflections. 1/5 In 2004, I joined the company with no prior experience in engineering or surveying. I still wonder what the hiring team saw in me, as the start wasn’t easy. The work was intricate, demanding early starts, long commutes, and exposure to all types of weather. I felt out of my depth and nearly lost the job within three weeks. Despite that, I pushed through, gradually grasping the basics and becoming a capable assistant surveyor. Driven to improve, I welcomed every chance to expand my knowledge, from experimenting with new technology and techniques to understanding clients' needs through open communication. This period wasn’t just about mastering technical skills; it was about building resilience. I learned that persistence and adaptability were my greatest tools, allowing me to keep up with the demands of the job and push myself further. Over time, I became proficient, handling more responsibility and gaining confidence with each new challenge. By focusing on growth and learning, I set a foundation that would support me through the rest of my career, and I started to see the potential for more ahead #CareerBeginnings #BuildingResilience #OvercomingChallenges #ProblemSolving #ContinuousLearning #CareerJourney #ProfessionalGrowth #Resilience #LeadershipDevelopment #Adaptability

Are you waiting for the perfect job to come along? Stop waiting – and start taking control. Yesterday, I spoke with two Chartered Building Surveyors – one recently Chartered, the other at Associate level. Both were considering a move but waiting for the “right” role to come along. Sound familiar? Here’s the problem: waiting for the right role means leaving your career to chance. Both of these Building Surveyors are in high demand, but the idea of relying on job ads or waiting for opportunities essentially puts someone else’s priorities ahead of your own. There’s a better way to approach this. Start with you. Ask yourself: ✅ What do you need in your next role? ✅ What will move your career forward? ✅ What aligns with your personal goals? When you focus on what you want rather than what appears to be on offer, you take control of your search. So, stop waiting for luck to land the perfect job in your lap. Be intentional. Take charge and find it. If you’d like help creating a tailored approach to your job search, get in touch. I’d be happy to guide you every step of the way. #mrics #rics #charteredbuildingsurveyor #surveyorjobs HD Surveyors Ltd

Don't you just love it when a recruiter reaches out to you saying they love your work and they have a perfect opportunity for you!? Of course, you take the time to meet with them and hear about the opportunity. Then you realise it's an entirely different position from what you actually do... So, you tell them you are in fact a Senior Valuer and not in fact a Quantity Surveyor 🙄 And you realise they did no research on you before you booked an hour out of your day which was then rescheduled to a different day that you had to book another hour out of your day for. And then they end the call saying "I don't think you're right for this job and this isn't going to work out but send us names of people who would be a good fit! Good luck in your search!" And then you are left searching for where they get the audacity. Yea, that doesn't happen with SONDR. #RecruitmentProblems #Recruiters #WeAreSONDR

Brrrr ☃ at least no one can deny that the opportunities I am recruiting for are far hotter than this weather!!! BUILDING SURVEYORS 🔥 The Carriera team are retained on a super exciting 'team expansion' campaign with one of London's most thriving consultancies. We are working a variety of vacancies of growth and critical hires... On offer: ☀ Unreal diversity in workload and clients ☀ Opportunity to work at one of the most market-resilient firms.. historically they've actually thrived throughout any economic downturn.. so any one concerned for job security, needn't be!! ☀ Top rate salaries and packages - it truly is a firm who values and rewards their staff accordingly. ☀ Large enough existing team to facilitate a project/ technical/ service line specialism. ☀ Whether you are an experienced APC Building Surveyor or a Partner level Building Surveyor (or anything in between..) - there is scope for you to progress your career with a fantastic position at this firm. What's not to like?! Please do reach out if you'd like to discuss your situation, and I'll merrily explain how it could potentially be improved (or not, honesty is the best policy after all).. but I am a real fan girl of this particular client! 📸 taken at the weekend, a rare snippet of Welsh sun. 1 year at a completely different kind of company after 16 years at my last and a lot has been learned. * meet with your clients regularly and if you can't, a call goes a long way. I got locked in the work too much and didn't visit as much as I should have. I'm still fighting that, but better *ask for the price you deserve and just offer the value to justify it, without guilt. I used to waiver on price often and make up the gap for free. *write out a work plan, even for the small jobs. I previously worked with people who knew me well enough to do the job exactly as I would. my reach is too big now to think like that. *Land Surveyors are massively under valued. SAM's client diversity is eye opening. Most surveyors find a niche and stay there underpaid and under appreciated. *small business or half a billion, CEOs put their life into a company and that's the minimum it takes. what's the same? Mentorship in surveying is the #1 need right now.
