Their conquests carved out the Lombard Kingdom, encompassing much of the northern and central regions. The Lombards' rule introduced a different Germanic influence to the Italian landscape, notably in the northern regions. While the Ostrogoths and Lombards vied for control of northern Italy, the Byzantine Empire maintained a firm grip on the south, including Sicily and Naples. The Byzantine presence served as a link to the Eastern Roman Empire, preserving Roman traditions and culture in the region. The clash of these powers set the stage for intense conflicts. The Byzantine Empire, eager to regain control over the entire Italian Peninsula, initiated campaigns against the Ostrogoths and Lombards. The Gothic Wars, lasting for decades, saw shifting fortunes and alliances, ultimately ending with the fall of the Ostrogothic kingdom. The Lombards, though they embraced Christianity, continued to exert their influence in the north, establishing their own rule. Clan tartans are unique patterns associated with Scottish clans and septs. Each clan has its own distinctive tartan pattern, usually consisting of various combinations of colors or overlaid muted checks and stripes. The earliest evidence of tartan patterns dates back to the 16th century. However, most surviving patterns from this period are black and white and it is clear that some tartans were simply territorial rather than specifically belonging to a particular clan. The modern notion of a distinct tartan for each clan emerged in the 18th century and was strongly encouraged by members of the tartan-wearing Kilmarnock Johnnies and later the Highland Societies. The Victorians further populized this notion with Queen Victoria's interest in Scottish heritage. This particular order, known as the Orden Imperial de Guadalupe, holds historical significance and is a symbol of the political and social changes that occurred in Mexico during that time. The cross is made of gold and measures 61x37 mm. It is intricately enameled, adding to its aesthetic appeal. The original ribbon, which accompanies the cross, adds to its authenticity and historical value. The condition of the cross is stated as "Condition-I," which indicates that it is well-preserved and in good shape considering its age. The Mexico Imperial Order of Guadalupe was established by Emperor Maximilian I, who was appointed as the ruler of Mexico by the French government in 1863. Maximilian aimed to establish a new order of chivalry that would honor individuals for their contributions to Mexico or for their loyalty to the imperial regime.
