Finding the right staff for children's homes is no easy task. 🌟 One of the biggest challenges is ensuring candidates have the right mix of compassion and resilience. Working in a children's home can be emotionally demanding, and not everyone is cut out for it. We need individuals who can provide a stable and nurturing environment, even in the face of challenging behaviours and situations. Another hurdle is the rigorous background checks and training required. While these are essential for safeguarding, they can also lengthen the hiring process. It's crucial to balance thorough vetting with the need to fill positions promptly to maintain high standards of care. Lastly, there's the issue of retention. The emotional toll and sometimes lower pay compared to other sectors can lead to higher turnover rates. Investing in ongoing support and professional development for staff can help, but it's an ongoing battle. What strategies have you found effective in overcoming these challenges? Let's discuss in the comments! 👇 #Recruitment #ChildrensHomes #SocialCare

Finding the right staff for children's homes is no walk in the park. 🏡 It's a role that demands not just qualifications, but a heart full of compassion and patience. Here are some of the key challenges we face in this sector. Firstly, the emotional resilience required for these roles is immense. Staff need to manage their own emotions while supporting children through their traumas. This isn't something you can teach in a classroom; it requires a special kind of person. The high emotional demands often lead to burnout, making retention a significant issue. Secondly, there's the challenge of finding candidates with the right mix of skills and experience. While qualifications are essential, practical experience in similar settings is invaluable. However, the pool of candidates with both is relatively small. This is compounded by the fact that many potential candidates are put off by the demanding nature of the work and the relatively low pay compared to other sectors. Lastly, regulatory requirements add another layer of complexity. The UK has stringent standards for children's homes, and rightly so. But this means that the recruitment process is lengthy and thorough, often leading to delays in filling positions. Ensuring all staff are fully vetted and trained to meet these standards is crucial, but it can be a time-consuming process. If you have experience in this field, I'd love to hear your thoughts. What do you think are the biggest challenges in recruiting for children's homes? #Recruitment #ChildrensHomes #SocialCare

❓❓Why I Chose Recruitment Over Working Directly in Residential Children’s Homes❓❓ I’ve had people ask me, "If you're so dedicated and passionate about residential children’s homes, why don’t you work in one? Why are you in recruitment?" My answer is rooted in my own experiences. First of all reading care plans of children that have gone through a similar background to mine of abuse, neglect and trauma at times were quite triggering. I also get very involved and sometimes struggle to leave everything at the door and would often bring work home with me. I've worked in homes and with children leaving care as an agency worker. I've also been a team leader using agency staff. Big corporate companies handle recruitment without any strings attached to the residential childcare sector, so why couldn’t I? With my lived experience and our family-run business, I know who I’d rather work with! Initially, I developed the temp department while my husband/business partner focused on permanent placements. We've supported many companies in Leicestershire, including packages for local authorities. However, I realised that despite my efforts to provide regular staff for the children, it was nearly impossible. So, we decided to focus on permanent recruitment. Coming from a care background myself, I know how essential stability is in this sector. There’s a significant need for agency workers in the sector, and while I can't change it alone, I am seeing progress and although many people go in to it with wanting a work life balance and to pick and choose shifts and earn more money, they often feel like they don’t work as a team and have no guarantee of hours so their income could be very hit and miss. At our company Residential Recruitment, we provide opportunities without strings attached or pressuring candidates into roles. It's all very candidate-led, empowering you to find the right fit for your skills and aspirations. We believe in transparency and integrity, prioritising your career goals over quotas and targets. Our mission is to support you in finding a role where you can thrive and make a meaningful impact. So, if you’re looking for a new role, let’s have a chat! Together, we can build a brighter future for you and the children you’ll support. #Recruitment #Childcare #ResidentialCare #CareerOpportunities #Support #Empowerment

What do you look for when hiring in Children's residential? 🤔 As a recruiter within the social care sector, I engage with children's residential organisations daily, to discuss what they look for in a candidate. Beyond the essential qualifications and experience, empathy stands as a pivotal attribute. The ability to understand and share the emotions of others can elevate a competent carer to greatness, particularly when working with vulnerable children. 🌟 Individuals who are dependable in managing routine care, behaviour management, and safeguarding, as well as those who can collaborate seamlessly with the entire team are just some of the crucial attributes we look for. 🌍 Social care thrives on collaboration, and adaptability is vital for effectively handling crisis intervention and case management. 🔄 What are your thoughts? What might be a deciding factor when deciding between 2 individuals as good as the other on paper? 👇 #socialcare #hiring #teamwork #empathy #recruitment #childrensservices #vulnerablechildren #careersinhealthcare #jobsearch #communitysupport #socialwork

https://archive.is/fF5PD An essay on disability by Tanny Dobbelaar 💡. "Self-reliance does not exist, of course it doesn't. It is a neoliberal construct. After all, people without disabilities also rely on their environment, but we don't call that help. Using a company car to get to work is not a blow to your budget, but needing an adapted car is. Hiring a cleaning lady is normal, a personal assistant is pitiful."
