I attended a fantastic online Learning and Development conference through CMG Training - The Irish Institute of Professional Education. There were a host of different speakers and I have taken at least one thing from each speaker which is always my goal when attending these events but below are my key takeaways from the day: 1. Laura Barry gave a fantastic overview and understanding on how to develop an L&D framework in what can be complicated working environments. My takeaway was that human capital is more important than ever and it’s through L&D strategies that we support the teams we have and help them grow. 2. Belinda Brummer tackled the beast of the problem we all face in L&D which is creating a culture of learning through personalisation. This session reinforced the importance that nothing in this world is static so why should learning? A fantastic mantra to work by! 3. Niamh Moynihan delved into evaluations and return on investment. It was so helpful to get a handle on how we can measure the ROI on training or programmes that aren’t easily quantifiable which would be the majority of the time for me so I’ll definitely venture into this level of evaluation armed with the advice given in this session! 4. Fredericka Sheppard (FCIPD) looked at the mountainous task of the Training Needs Analysis. Fredericka has a phenomenal talent of breaking down mammoth processes into bite sized, achievable signposts to ensure success. It’s so easy to forget that we don’t need to have a one-size-fits all approach when it comes to TNAs and that it’s ok to use different methodologies for different organisations and units. Big thanks to CMG Training - The Irish Institute of Professional Education for a fantastic event!
