"State lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including several on a critical education reform committee, say they're committed to seeking solutions to help ensure some of North Carolina's most vulnerable students get the public education they're constitutionally guaranteed." Suspensions and expulsions often occur due to a lack of adequate services and supports to meet students' needs. No educator wants to resort to expulsion; it often happens as a last resort due to staffing shortages and inadequate training. We must invest in more school social workers and counselors. Suspensions and expulsions harm both the student and the school. Students miss out on vital education opportunities and school communities miss their important contributions. We should explore alternative support mechanisms that benefit everyone. Read more https://bit.ly/48oSHYL #School #Suspention #DisabilityRIghts ID: Silhouettes of kids on swings.

Here is a link to a U.S. Department of the Interior Report which some of you may find to be of interest: ...The (U.S.) federal government today expanded the number of children known to have died in the repressive boarding school system that, for more than a century, pulled Native American children from their homes and communities. The Interior Department also called for billions in federal funding to begin a “healing” process. The report concludes a three-year investigation that saw, for the first time, the federal government accepting responsibility for its role in creating the system, which included more than 400 schools across 37 states... https://lnkd.in/gyn2tNQS

As a nation, we are still figuring out what National Day for Truth and Reconciliation looks like. Did you know that the Calls to Action are nearly 10 years old? There are 94 calls to action. The good news is we have made progress on quite a few of them. Some are extremely concrete, executable and measurable. Have you read them? Here is CTA #1: 1. We call upon the federal, provincial, territorial, and Aboriginal governments to commit to reducing the number of Aboriginal children in care by: i. Monitoring and assessing neglect investigations. ii. Providing adequate resources to enable Aboriginal communities and child-welfare organizations to keep Aboriginal families together where it is safe to do so, and to keep children in culturally appropriate environments, regardless of where they reside. iii. Ensuring that social workers and others who conduct child-welfare investigations are properly educated and trained about the history and impacts of residential schools. iv. Ensuring that social workers and others who conduct child-welfare investigations are properly educated and trained about the potential for Aboriginal communities and families to provide more appropriate solutions to family healing. v. Requiring that all child-welfare decision makers consider the impact of the residential school experience on children and their caregivers.

From the archives... This is an uncomfortable topic for many, but if you have children in government school, or are thinking about sending your children to government school at any point in the future, please heed this warning by Dr. C. Bradley Thompson. If you have sworn off public schooling for your children, please use this to help others find their way out of the dark depravity that is our public schooling system. #HomeEducation #homeschool #homeschooling #education #GetOutNow #PublicSchoolExit #ChristianEducation #EdcuationIsDiscipleship #ChristianHomeschoolRevolution https://lnkd.in/e5UdBQdQ
