Once you're a museum person... ... your museum visits will NEVER be the same! If you're in the field, I bet you know what I'm doing. If you're not... let me give you a little peek into the crazy brain of an education and exhibits museum professional. You walk into an exhibit space and immediately start asking questions... * Wow, are those stumps real? * How heavy are they? * Could a kid pick those up? * How heavily are they sanded for splinters? * Can I push it? * How long have they been aged? * Is there any option that they might ooze some sap? * OH my... did they freeze, kiln dry, or treat these for bugs? * Who/What did they work with to get such awesomely level cuts? * What if these got stacked? * What if the stack fell!? Then you start investigating in an effort to get all the answers and start making conclusions. Yup, you get in there an play, turn things over, test it out, crawl under tables, and find those answers. * DANG, so heavy! Not picking this baby up! * What an awesome option for integrated seating for both adults and kiddos. * So smooth... I could rub even the tenderest baby hands across this! * These could be a fun height to jump off of if I was a little... or a big. * This heft is great for young visitors to test their pushing power. Our minds never stop... and museum visits just aren't the same. Inspiring, relaxing, intriguing... but also a true source of inspiration and resources for our industry. Kudos to you, Louisiana Children's Museum for making my mind swirl with wonder... so much so that a colleague 'caught me in the act' of doing what we all do best! I totally embarrassed my kids in the Louvre because I was working on a wayfinding project at the time. I think I obsessed a bit more about bathroom signage than the art.

I have certainly sketched out security when I've looked behind objects to see their hardware and mounts...Diane Lee...

This is so true! I’m always analyzing exhibit text and hands on activities!
