Exciting news from the KENTUCKY LAWYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOUNDATION INC (KYLAP)! We are proud to announce a new partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to implement AFSP’s Interactive Screening Program (ISP). This initiative is designed to provide vital mental health and suicide prevention support specifically for Kentucky’s legal professionals, including lawyers, judges, and law students. AFSP is the leading organization in the U.S. dedicated to advancing science, advocacy, and education for suicide prevention. The Kentucky Legal Professionals’ Interactive Screening Program (KLP-ISP) is an evidence-based, online tool that allows individuals to connect anonymously with peer and clinical support before crises emerge. This program is the first of its kind in the country targeted specifically at legal professionals. This program is available to all members of the Kentucky Bar Association. We encourage all Kentucky law students, lawyers, and judges to take advantage of this valuable resource. To access the screening program, visit: https://lnkd.in/es8XV4uF. Remember, if someone you know is considering suicide or is in a mental health crisis, dial 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Let's work together to support the well-being of our legal community. #MentalHealthMatters #LegalProfessionals #KYLAP #SuicidePrevention #AFSP #Lawyers #Judges #LawStudents #KentuckyBarAssociation

🇯🇴⚖️Empowering Young Lives: Jordan’s Progressive Approach to Juvenile Justice🇯🇴⚖️ Hello everyone! Today’s #DailyLegalInsight focuses on Jordan’s Juvenile Law and its progressive approach to non-custodial measures. This law offers a range of options to support, guide, and rehabilitate young offenders without limiting their freedom. Here’s how it works: 👩⚖️✅ Reprimand & Warning: A firm, dignity-respecting warning, encouraging the youth to avoid repeating the behavior. 👩⚖️✅ Release to Guardians: The juvenile can be entrusted to a responsible family member or, if needed, to a trusted individual or family who pledges to provide a supportive environment. 👩⚖️✅ Community Service: Contributing through up to a year of public service at institutions or NGOs to foster a sense of responsibility and purpose. 👩⚖️✅ Vocational Training: Enrolling the youth in skill-building programs at certified centers for up to a year, helping them develop practical and positive life skills. 👩⚖️✅ Special Duties or Restrictions: Assigning specific duties or limitations to help the juvenile develop discipline and accountability. 👩⚖️✅ Rehabilitation Programs: Accessing support and counseling through programs organized by the ministry or accredited NGOs, tailored to their needs. 👩⚖️✅ Judicial Supervision: With court-appointed oversight, juveniles stay in their community under structured guidance to support their growth. This framework emphasizes rehabilitation, responsibility, and reintegration over punishment. By providing tailored, supportive options, Jordan’s Juvenile Law aims to empower young people and create pathways to a brighter future. #JuvenileJustice #Rehabilitation #YouthEmpowerment #JordanLaw #LegalAwareness

🎉 HAPPY LAW DAY 2024: "Voices of Democracy" ... and congratulations on this opportunity to celebrate with others in the legal community and earn a CLE! ⚖This Law Day, the theme "Voices of Democracy" reminds us of the power citizens have to shape a better future. But what about the voices within the very system that upholds democracy – the legal community? 👩⚖️ Lawyers, judges, and legal professionals are the backbone of our justice system. They carry a tremendous burden, facing demanding schedules, high pressure, and complex cases. Yet, mental health and recovery support for this vital group often goes overlooked. 👨⚖️ As we have seen, the legal field is not immune to the challenges of mental health. The stress and strain can lead to burnout, anxiety, and depression. This not only impacts the well-being of legal professionals, but can also affect the quality of legal services offered. On this Law Day, let's raise our voices in support of the legal community's mental health. We need to create a system where seeking help isn't a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength and dedication to a healthy and thriving legal profession. Join us at our symposium and reception advocating for the legal recovery community featuring keynote speaker Mary Beth O'Connor, author of "From Junkie to Judge: One Woman's Triumph Over Trauma & Addiction." It will be held at Recovery Centers of America - Devon on Wed. May 8th, (the Wednesday of Lawyer Well Being Week). Huge kudos to Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP for their willingness, authenticity, and wisdom in collaborating with you, Kevin Hyer and The Hyer Calling Foundation, Inc. along with RCA in making this event happen! Each voice matters. I invite you, too, to think about ways to create a legal system that better supports the well-being of those who uphold it. #lawday2024 #lawyers #legalcommunity #justiceforall #knowledgeispower #communityhealth #suicideprevention #overdoseprevention #legalservices #legalhelp #mentalhealthishealth #advocacyinaction #recoveryworks #lawlife #professionalism #integrity #professionalcommunity #gratitude #CLE #continuingeducation #professionaldevelopment

The National Audit Office’s recent report highlights significant concerns in the provision of support for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN). As a solicitor advocating for parents, it is troubling to see systemic delays in assessments, inconsistent educational outcomes, and insufficient placements for children. The financial strain on local authorities is unsustainable, further delaying critical services. Parents must understand their legal rights to ensure timely and adequate support for their children. Now, more than ever, legal intervention may be necessary to secure the appropriate educational provisions. #SEND #SpecialEducationalNeeds #Advocacy #LegalSupport

CALL FOR RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS: If you are an adult or young person over the age of 12 and have been involved in the family court as a child, we would like to speak to you! This research will look at children’s experiences in family law court cases where allegations of child sexual abuse (CSA) have been raised. The focus is on private family law cases, such as those determining with whom children should live or spend time. Participation will involve taking part in an interview with one of the researchers where you can share your experience of the family courts. We will talk about things like: · How involved you felt you were in the case · How you felt about the outcome of the case · How did the court and professionals involved listen to you and, if relevant, how you could have felt more listened to · How has the court case affected your life A note from the researcher: My name is Jaime Lindsey and I am a researcher in family and healthcare law at the University of Reading. We are carrying out research funded by the British Academy which looks at children's experiences of private family law cases in the family courts where allegations of child sexual abuse have been made. Our advisory group for the project includes survivors of CSA and our project partner is an organisation which supports survivors of sexual abuse. If you have any questions about the research please contact me at j.lindsey@reading.ac.uk Email Jaime directly or follow the link in our bio for more detail on becoming a research participant. #research #trauma #familycourts #csa #survivor

Next Wednesday is our October Lunch-n-Learn focusing on Elder Law and Guardianship. Join us for a discussion on Florida and national trends geared toward greater advocacy for individuals and their families in personal and financial decision-making, even when an individual has cognitive challenges. The term “less restrictive alternatives” will be the focus and we will examine available legal tools, including limited and voluntary guardianship in Florida, guardian advocacy for individuals with a developmental disability, and supported decision-making agreements, now a part of Florida law. Resources and sample documents will be provided and participants will be encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions about overcoming barriers to increased individual autonomy. https://bit.ly/4gQjQJU
