Happy Wednesday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message, brought to you by our parent company, MYR Group. Slips and trips can lead to serious injuries, especially when the colder months bring snow, ice, and slush. It’s important to adjust your focus to include seasonal hazards that contribute to slips and falls. Read on for some tips on how to take extra precautions as temperatures drop. ⤵️ ❄️ Stay aware of what lies ahead of you. Don’t look down at a phone or carry an item in such a way that it blocks your sight. ❄️ If you notice a slippery patch, take the necessary and appropriate steps to report, mitigate, and clear the hazard. ❄️ Always clear snow and ice off ladder steps, stairways, and the entrance/exit points of vehicles. ❄️ In the winter, pay special attention to your footwear’s warmth and tread. For extra traction, add ice cleats to the bottom of your boots. ❄️ A patch of ice can easily appear from one day to the next – or even from the morning to the afternoon. Even if you’re walking or working in an area that you’ve frequently been in before, remember that conditions can change quickly. Keep these tips in mind so that the only thing falling this winter is the temperature! At MYR Energy Services, Safety is Life. #MYREnergy #Safety #HereforYou #EmpoweringPeople #CreatingConnections

👀 The best thing I've seen today: The price of sitting is significant. You always pay one way or another. Two simple hacks to help you improve: 1️⃣ Drink the appropriate amount of water throughout the day (this will cause you multiple times a day to get up & go to the bathroom...like it or not) 2️⃣ Every time you get up to go to the bathroom, do a minimum of two bodyweight squats or lunges (whatever gets you moving, the more the better). Sometimes I literally do lunges or crab walks all the way to the bathroom. What started as a simple 2 squat minimum (sometimes I still do the minimum in a hurry) has blossomed into a 2-3 min routine (5-6 muscle stretches) every time use the bathroom. I've gone from not stretching to now drinking a gallon of water every day and doing a total of 20-30 minutes of stretching a day spread throughout. It works, I promise! 🔑THURSDAY TIP 📱Just in time for Put Down Your Phone Week … here’s a tip on cleaning your phone, because chances are it’s covered in not-so-good germs. Shocking Stat: A study a couple of years ago found that average phone users touch their phones more than 2,600 times a day — and that heavy users touch their phones almost 5,500 times! 🤯 That is a LOT of opportunity for germs to pile up. To clean your phone (& don’t forget about the case, which can be washed separately): Turn off & unplug your phone. Wash your hands using soap and water, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds. Wipe down the outside of your phone (screen too) with an antibacterial wipe. You also can spray a soft cloth with an alcohol-based disinfectant cleaner that contains 70% isopropyl alcohol. Don’t get any moisture in the ports. Let dry and turn back on. ❓How often do you clean your phone? Do you even clean it!? 👇 #Fitness #MVPTrainingStudio #Groupfitness #Littleriver #Seniorfitness #Fatloss #Weightloss #Trainer #Training #Gym #Workout #Healthy #Recipes #Functionalaging #motivation #workout

Do you take breaks at work? I do and I firmly believe in the restorative powers of multiple breaks per day. I usually take 2 to 3 walk breaks with my little dog - Maya. We walk around the neighbourhood to stretch our legs, keep our hips moving (they're stiff from sitting), get some fresh air and sunshine. After staring in front of screens for a couple of hours, I'm ready for a 10-15 minute walking break. Sometimes I listen to podcasts from Angela Duckworth or Mel Robbins to take in some wisdom from experts about productivity, happiness, and living your best lives. There are times that I'll use this walking break time to catch up with the PE98.ca Promotional Elements Inc. team at the office via phone. But there are times that I just zone out in my thoughts. Listen to your body. It will tell you what you need. If you want to be good at what you do, it's important to be rested (sleep is the key), hydrated (water, not just iced coffees 😂), and to take periodic breaks. Go ahead, take a break: go for a walk, do some stretches, meditate, but move away from your chair and desk.
