Your patients' health journey could be negatively impacted by intimidation. What can you do to help make their health journey more comfortable? Humans are naturally motivated by the perceived distance between themselves and their future goals, greatly influencing the intensity of their efforts to reach their health goals. The closer you can get a patient to a goal, the more motivated they will be to adhere and adopt a plan to optimize their health. When a patient is first introduced to a health plan, it can be extremely intimidating, which will lessen their motivation to adhere to the plan. However, if you take that same plan and break it up into small milestones, the end goal seems less daunting and much more achievable. Which of the following plans do you believe a patient will be more likely to adhere to? Option A: "Your health is in a critical state. To prevent serious consequences, you must strictly adhere to a demanding routine of diet, exercise, and medication." Option B: "Improving your health can feel daunting, but we'll take it one step at a time. Let's start with small, achievable goals like adding more fruits and veggies to your diet and taking short walks. Together, we'll make progress toward your well-being." Both options communicate the same message, but simply reframing how the information is communicated makes option B seem much less intimidating and much more achievable. This theory transcends beyond clinical operations into your messaging and patient outreach strategies. Let's help our patients achieve healthier lives by not only providing care but also steps they can take to achieve optimal health. This will increase your patients' trust and strengthen their retention and engagement at your clinic. . . . #TargetContinuum #HealthcareMarketing #HealthJourney #BehavioralEconomics

Lifestyle Medicine Physician. Dedicated to studying the aging process. Pioneering integrative, evidence-based approach to enhance health & wellness. I use personalized interventions for therapeutic & preventive care
That personal testimonial shines a light on a critical question that we, as healthcare professionals, must grapple with: Despite the robust evidence supporting lifestyle interventions, why do many family physicians watch patients progress from prediabetes to requiring hemodialysis, frequently attributing this deterioration to non-compliance with medication? This paradox underscores a fundamental flaw in our current healthcare paradigm. We’re too often focused on ‘mopping the floor’ while the ‘faucet’—the underlying lifestyle factors contributing to chronic diseases—continues to leak. It’s crucial to ask ourselves why the conventional approach persists in prioritizing medication over meaningful lifestyle modifications. Is it due to a lack of training in lifestyle medicine, systemic pressures, or perhaps an underestimation of patients’ capacity to change? The evidence is clear: lifestyle prescriptions can profoundly impact health outcomes, offering a more sustainable solution to chronic disease management than medication alone. As lifestyle medicine physicians, it’s our duty to champion this cause, educating our peers and patients about the power of diet, exercise, and mental well-being in disease prevention and management.

Are you (or your clients) struggling to manage GLP-1? Rhetorical question! Please reach out to me to learn more.
There's nothing more personal than health. And the topic of weight management can be especially personal and complex. Many see GLP-1s as a potential solution for costly diseases like diabetes and obesity. In fact, J.P. Morgan Research projects that the GLP-1 market will surpass $100 billion by 2030. Over the last four months, we've heard questions from over 60 employers around how they will meet the demand for weight loss medications and manage the cost curve. From those conversations, we've put together our 3 key recommendations employers can adopt as GLP-1 best practices to encourage sustainable healthy habits while also managing costs. 1️⃣ Take a step back and frame out the situation 👉 Pause to understand your population needs. Remember, great health outcomes start with a greater understanding of people 2️⃣ Avoid a one-size-fits-all approach 👉 Medications will not be a fit for everyone. Some will benefit from lifestyle changes like diet and exercise alone, while others need behavior change alongside the drugs 3️⃣ Emphasize human support alongside digital tools 👉 Wraparound support is key for transformative, personalized health experiences Read today's release for the full story: https://bit.ly/479gz3F #BecauseHealthIsPersonal
