In partnership with Techspace, we transformed a former Gin Distillery into a flexible office space that doubles its original capacity, supporting their growing member companies.  The design combines industrial-style offices with carefully planned breakout and collaborative spaces, enabling seamless teamwork and providing areas for focused work.  Sustainability was central to the project, with furniture and materials reused wherever possible, while original features like exposed concrete and timber beams were preserved to reflect the building’s history. 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 The EBRD’s new headquarters in Canary Wharf shows how modern office design can honour the past while embracing the future. The space mixes innovative, sustainable design with thoughtful elements that pay tribute to the organisation’s history, creating a work environment that feels both fresh and rooted. A perfect example is an art installation on Level 14 that looks like a bookcase at first glance but is actually a sculpture made from salvaged bricks from the EBRD’s former office. Created by Isidoor Goddeeris in 1993, it’s a powerful reminder of knowledge and continuity, tying together the old and the new in a truly meaningful way. It’s these kinds of details that really set great office spaces apart. When design honours history, it not only tells a story but also creates a sense of purpose and belonging. This approach is about more than just aesthetics—it’s about creating spaces where people can feel inspired, connected and part of something bigger. The sole use of cubicles in the design of commercial spaces is phasing out. Instead, there has been an increase in open-plan office layouts. Large open-plan workspaces offer benefits regarding the flexible use of space but can sometimes feel alienating and impersonal to employees.
